Kimberley Busteed (born 4 June 1988) is an Australian TV host, model and beauty pageant titleholder beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Universe Australia 2007 and represented Australia in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant. She is from Gladstone in Central Queensland, Australia [1] and is a former teen swimming champion and surf lifesaving competitor. In 2006 she was the Fashion on the Field winner at the Doomben races in Brisbane, following that she won the Melbourne Cup Fashions on the Field. [2] In 2012 Busteed resumed her competitive swimming by competing in the Noosa Tri, swimming the 1500m ocean stretch for her team. [3]

Personal life

Busteed is married to retired cricketer Chris Simpson. They have two daughters Victoria and Evie. [4]

Career

While competing in Mexico during the Miss Universe 2007 contest, she was heavily criticized for wearing her "tacky" national costume. Some of Australia's top designers branded the red lifesaving themed costume as "trashy" and "nothing to do with Australia's culture". However she was endorsed by designers Wayne Cooper and Peter Morrissey in the same year. [5]

Busteed has worked extensively with the Leukaemia Foundation, inspired by the death of her brother at the age of 9. [6] [7]

Near the end of 2008, Busteed obtained a position as a TV presenter on Channel 7's Creek to Coast and Queensland's Weekender. [8] [9] [10] She later went on to work as a presenter for radio with Nova 106.9. [4]

The 14th Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Auditorio "Profr. Manuel Bonilla Valle" of Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico on October 6, 2007. Thirty-three contestants of the Mexican Republic competed for the national title, which was won by Elisa Nájera from Guanajuato, who later competed in Miss Universe 2008 in Vietnam where she was the 4th Runner-up. Nájera was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Rosa María Ojeda. She is the first and only Guanajuatense to win this title.

The 15th annual Nuestra Belleza México pageant, was held at the Arena Monterrey of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico on September 20, 2008. Thirty-three contestants competed for the national title, which was won by Karla Carrillo from Jalisco, who later competed in Miss Universe 2009 in The Bahamas. Carrillo was crowned by outgoing Nuestra Belleza México titleholder Elisa Nájera. She was the second Jalisciense to win this Title.

Monique Riley is an Australian beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Universe Australia 2022. She represented Australia at Miss Universe 2022, and reached the Top 16.
