Kimberly Derrick (born April 28, 1985 in Blytheville, Arkansas [1] ) is an American short track speed skater.
Kimberly Derrick grew up on inline skates and, between the ages of 6 and 18, she dominated the women's inline world, winning and placing in numerous National Championships. At 18, Derrick switched to ice and took on the speedskating world with the same ferocity she did with inline competitions.
As a member of the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team in Torino, Italy, Derrick realized her dream of making an Olympic team, and in September 2009, she earned a spot on the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team.
During World Cup competition in the 2008-09 season, Derrick earned three medals in the 1000m, including a gold. She was also part of the ladies relay team that won the gold medal in Dresden, Germany - the first time the U.S. ladies have won gold in this event. During the ISU World Short Track Team Championships in the Netherlands, Derrick was part of the ladies team, earning a bronze medal overall.
Derrick is an instrumental part of the ladies relay team which won a silver medal at World Cup 3 in Montreal.
Derrick is a converted inline skater and the first U.S. Winter Olympian born in Arkansas. She has lived in Arkansas, Tennessee, Ohio, Michigan and Utah. At Northern Michigan University, she majored in elementary education, and she would like to go into teaching one day. Derrick graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in elementary education.
At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Derrick competed in the 1000 meters (in which she was eliminated in the quarterfinals) and the 3000 meter relay (in which her team finished fourth). Derrick became the first U.S. Winter Olympian born in Arkansas. [2] Derrick's grandfather died while in Turin to see her compete. Derrick decided to compete because she believed her grandfather would want her to do so. [1]
Derrick didn't make it past the heats in the 1000 and 1500 m races. [3] [4] However, Derrick won a bronze medal in the 3000 m relay (she only competed in the semifinals). [5]
Allison Baver is an American retired short track speed skater. A member of the U.S. short track speed skating squad beginning in 2002, Baver earned multiple medials in ISU World Cup competition. Baver competed in the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, and 3000m relay events and trained with the US permanent winter sports Olympic team in Salt Lake City, Utah. In the 2005–2006 season, she was ranked third overall in world rankings. In 2010 she won a bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
John Robert "J. R." Celski is a retired American short track speed skater, three-time Olympian, and three-time medalist in the Winter Olympics. Celski has held a total of five combined Short Track World and Junior World Records throughout his career including the 500m and 5000m relay World Records as well as the 500m, 1000m and 3000m relay Junior World Records. Celski was a part of the team that broke and currently holds the World Record in the 5000m relay established in Shanghai, China on November 12, 2017.
Katherine Reutter-Adamek is an American short track speed skater. She is a two-time medalist in the Winter Olympics, 2011 overall world silver medalist and the 2010–2011 overall ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup champion.
Alyson Dudek is an American short track speed skater and Olympic bronze medallist.
Jordan Malone is an American short track speed skater who was a member of the US Olympic Team for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. He is from Denton, Texas, and is an alumnus of the Texas Tech University Independent School District. Jordan competed in the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. During one of the Olympic days, Malone got stuck in a bathroom and, later that same day, got stuck in an elevator.
Lana Gehring is an American short track speed skater. She competed for the United States at the 2010 Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal as part of a relay team. She has qualified for a spot on the U.S. team for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Park Seung-hi is a former South Korean short track and long track speed skater. She is the 2010 Overall World Champion. She won two gold medals and three bronze medals at 2010 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Olympics. Her sister is Park Seung-ju, a long track speed skater, and her brother Park Se-yeong, a short track speed skater. She switched to long-track speed skating after the 2014 Sochi Olympics. After the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics Park announced her retirement from speedskating.
Kim Bo-reum is a South Korean speed skater. She is the current South Korean record holder in the women's long track speed skating 3000 and 5000 metres. She is a two-time Olympian and specialises in the women's mass start.
Li Jianrou is a Chinese Short track Speed skater. She won a gold medal in the 500 m event of the 2014 Winter Olympics. She is the 2012 Overall World Champion. She represented China in the 2014 Winter Olympic's Ladies' 500 m event, 1000 m event and 1500 m event. She competed with China's women's relay team in the Ladies' 3000 m relay Finals and Semifinals.
Shim Suk-hee is a South Korean short track speed skater. She is a two-time Olympic Champion and a World Champion (2014).
Brittany Starr Bowe is an American speed skater and former inline skater and basketball player. She has eight gold, one silver, and two bronze medals from the world inline speedskating championships. From her junior years, she has another 21 world championship medals. She also has a gold medal from the combined sprint event in roller skating at the 2007 Pan American Games.
