Kogarah Bay Progress Association

The Kogarah Bay Progress Association is an Australian organisation serving the Kogarah Bay community. [1] [2] It is both a registered political party under the name of Georges River Residents and Ratepayers Party, [3] in the state of New South Wales. [4]

Contents

History and leadership

The association was established in 1921, [5] and reached its centenary in 2023. [6] The Georges River Residents and Ratespayers Party was founded in 2021. [7] In its first showing in the 2021 NSW local elections, the party finished third and received 16,607 votes, earning four council seats. [8]

The Honorary Secretary of the Kogarah Bay Progress Association is Elise Borg. [9] [ non-primary source needed ] Borg was also appointed as Deputy Mayor of Georges River in September 2023, alongside Sam Elmir becoming Mayor, [10] and she continues in that role. Borg is also serving her second term as Councillor. [11]

Activities

The association has generally been opposed to rezoning projects. [12] The association had also raised concerns about the development application by Georges River Council for the demolition of the Sans Souci Bathers' Pavilion, a local building. [13]

The association helped secure federal funding for the Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee grant program, [14] and has volunteered with preservation of the plants. [15]

It has also assisted volunteers during Clean Up Australia day. [16]
