Kogi State Polytechnic

Kogi State Polytechnic was established in 1993, and is located in Lokoja, Kogi State, Nigeria. It is owned and operated by Kogi State. As of 2007 it was accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to give certificates in Art and printing, Business, Engineering, Finance and Science Computing at the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels. [1] In December 2009 the polytechnic presented 16 programs for accreditation to a visiting team of NBTE officials, mainly for the new schools of Engineering and Environmental Technology, Applied Science and Management Studies. The Rector said the school had to be able to offer core engineering and technology programs in order to fulfill its mandate. [2]

In October 2005 the Kogi state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris approved disbursement of N80 million to the polytechnic. He announced this at the first convocation ceremony, which covered academic sessions from 1992/93 to 2003/2004 and graduated 21,646 students. [3]

In December 2005 a large number of hoodlums disrupted the matriculation ceremony of fresh students, set fire to the rector's office and damaged several vehicles before escaping. The incident may have been related to a struggle over who would succeed the rector, an Igala by tribe. [4] In March 2010 seventy five people, including 18 students of the Polytechnic, were crushed to death by a cement truck that ran out of control. In protest, students barricaded the Lokoja/Abuja highway, set fires and vandalized vehicles. [5] Governor Bello Appointed Dr Salisu Usman Ogbo as the Acting Rector Of Kogi State Polytechnic on the 7th April 2020 [6] and confirmed his appointment as the substantive Rector on 11th February 2021 in order to consolidate the achievements he made and bring back the lost glory of the polytechnic. [7]

Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha is a retired general from Kogi State, Nigeria, who was administrator of Akwa Ibom State and then of Bendel State during the military rule of General Ibrahim Babangida (1985–1993). After the return to democracy in 1999, he was the elected senator for the Kogi West constituency of Kogi State from May 1999 to May 2007. A biography on Ogbeha titled "Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha: A Noble Path" was written by Innocent Nzeke Waniko, a journalist, and presented publicly on 1 September 2017. Dorben Polytechnic

Dorben Polytechnic has its main campus located in Garam, Niger State, Nigeria, and another campus just to the north in Suleja, Niger State. It is usually addressed as Dorben Polytechnic (Bwari) Abuja, since it originally had its main campus in Bwari, Abuja. It was originally known as the Murtala College of Arts, Science and Technology, established in 1977 by the military governor of Benue State, Colonel Abdullahi Shelleng (1976–1978). Colonel (retired) Bzigu Lassa Afakirya was the Military Administrator of Kogi State, Nigeria from August 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha. When he assumed office he dissolved and reconstituted the Local Government Service Commission. Following the return to democracy, as a former military administrator he was required to retire from the army. In October 2005, he was awarded fellowship of the Kogi State Polytechnic.

Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, abbreviated FPN, is a tertiary institution in Nigeria commonly referred to as FedPolyNas or simply FPN. The school was established on 1 July 1983 by the Federal Government of Nigeria to foster technological development in the society. In 2019, the school matriculated over 3,681 students, 2,361 being National Diploma and 1,320 being Higher National Diploma students. Ahmed Abdullahi Aliyu Abdurrahim Sumaila born on 19 December 1976, is known by the royal title of Wamban Sumaila, Dan Isan Wudil, Makaman Massu, he is a District Head at Wudil and Sumaila Local Governments in Northern Region of Nigeria. He is a member of the Muallimawa dynasty a branch of the Aliyawa, House of Maiduniya and Banu Gha, with descent from the noble Madinawa, Jobawa, Toronkawa and Hausawa clans of the Arab, Fulani and Hausa tribes, called the Hausa-Fulani Arabs. He is a noble and part of the Nigerian Chieftaincy and aristocracy.

The 2019 Nigerian House of Representatives elections in Kogi State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the House of Representatives to represent Kogi State, Nigeria.
