Kokkayar is a village in Azhutha block of Peerumedu taluk in Idukki district, Kerala, India. [1] It is surrounded by Koottikkal, Elappara panchayaths in north, Peerumedu and Elappara panchayaths in east, Peruvanthanam in south and Koottikkal, Mundakkayam panchayaths in west.

Idukki district District in Kerala, India

Idukki is one of the 14 districts of Kerala state, India, created on 26 January 1972. At that time, the district headquarters was at Kottayam. In June 1976 it was moved to Painavu. Idukki which lies in the Western Ghats of Kerala. Idukki is the second largest district in area but has the lowest population density. The main industry of Idukki is chicken farming as Idukki has one the best climates for chickens to grow, the world Idukki itself means chicken farming. Idukki has a vast forest reserve area; more than a half of the district is covered by forests. The urban areas are densely populated whereas villages are sparsely populated. Idukki is also known as the spice garden of Kerala.

Yendayar is a village in Kottayam district, Kerala, India that is totally surrounded by hills. According to local tradition, Mr. J.J. Murphy named the place, which was to be his home until death in 1957, after his mother and the local river. Yendayar is a combination of ‘yen’ (my) ‘thai’ (mother) and ‘ar’ (river). Murphy had come 103 years ago to the place which was a thick forest and had no name or people then. He had traveled a long way to reach there. There he established India’s first successful rubber plantation. He brought workers from near and far – Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
