As of 2001 India census, [1] Kolathupalayam had a population of 17,321. Males constitute 55% of the population and females 45%. Kolathupalayam has an average literacy rate of 75.05%, higher than the national average literacy rates (73.8%) (age 7 and above) in 2011 were 82.14% for men and 65.46% for women.
