The Konya Metro is an under construction rapid transit system for the Turkish city of Konya. Construction of the Metro began in May 2020. [1] The Metro will have 1 line with 22 stations. Operation is slated to begin in the end of 2025.
Plans for a metro system in Konya were first discussed in 2015, with a feasibility study completed the following year. [2] Planners and city leaders in Konya have stated that traffic will be seriously affected by the construction of the Konya Metro. Konya's Municipal Government has stated that they are trying to minimize this problem by opening new and widening existing roads. In order to ease the traffic due to the metro construction, Celaleddin Karatay Street will be added to Karatay district and İsmail Ketenci Street to Meram district. Once completed, the Metro is expected to reduce traffic congestion on city streets. [3]
Financing for the project is being provided by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (Turkey).
In November 2019 the mayor of Konya announced that a consortium of China National Machinery and Taşyapı, will implement the €1.19bn project. The first line will be 21 km (13.0 mi) in length with 22 stations, [4] and is due to be completed by the end of 2025. [5] A formal groundbreaking was held on May 4, 2020. [6] The system will be constructed entirely using a tunneling method and the length of it will run underground.
The Cranbourne line is a commuter railway line in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Operated by Metro Trains Melbourne, it is the city's second longest metropolitan railway line at 44 kilometres (27 mi). The line runs from Flinders Street station in central Melbourne to Cranbourne station in the south-east, serving 24 stations via the City Loop, South Yarra, Caulfield, Oakleigh, and Dandenong. The line operates for approximately 20 hours a day with 24 hour service available on Friday and Saturday nights. During peak hour, headways of up to 5 to 15 minutes are operated with services every 15–20 minutes during off-peak hours. Trains on the Cranbourne line run with a seven-car formation operated by High Capacity Metro Trains.
The Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium was the main stadium of Ankara and was used by Gençlerbirliği and Ankaragücü as their home venue, until its closure in 2018. It was built in 1930 and is part of the 19 Mayıs Sports Complex, which is located in the Ulus district. The stadium had a capacity of 19,209 (all-seater). Ankaraspor also used the stadium until they moved to their new venue in the Yenikent district.
Delhi has significant reliance on its transport infrastructure. The city has developed a highly efficient public transport system with the introduction of the Delhi Metro, which is undergoing a rapid modernization and expansion since 2006. There are 16.6 million registered vehicles in the city as of 30 June 2014, which is the highest in the world among all cities, most of which do not follow any pollution emission norm, while the Delhi metropolitan region has 11.2 million vehicles. Delhi and NCR lose nearly 42 crore man-hours every month while commuting between home and office through public transport, due to the traffic congestion. Therefore, serious efforts, including a number of transport infrastructure projects, are under way to encourage usage of public transport in the city.
Turkish State Railways (TCDD) started building high-speed rail lines in 2003. TCDD has branded its high-speed service as Yüksek Hızlı Tren (YHT) which currently operates on three lines: the Ankara–Istanbul high-speed railway, the Ankara–Konya high-speed railway and the Ankara-Sivas high-speed railway. YHT is the only high-speed rail service in Turkey, with two types of EMU train models operating at speeds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph) (HT65000) or 300 km/h (186 mph) (HT80000).
The Istanbul Metro is a rapid transit railway network that serves the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Apart from the M11 line, which is operated by TCDD Taşımacılık, the system is operated by Metro Istanbul, a public enterprise controlled by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. The oldest section of the metro is the M1 line, which opened on 3 September, 1989. As of 2024, the system now includes 159 stations in service, with 36 more under construction. With 243.3 kilometers, Istanbul has the 21st longest metro line in the world and the 4th longest in Europe as of 2024.
Turkey has a state-owned railway system built to standard gauge which falls under the remit of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The primary rail carrier is the Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları (TCDD) which is responsible for all long-distance and cross-border freight and passenger trains. A number of other companies operate suburban passenger trains in urban conurbations.
The Baghdad Metro (Arabic: مترو بغداد), also known as Baghdad Elevated Train(BET) is a proposed rapid transit public railway system consisting of an underground metro as well as an elevated railway in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. In July 2024, it was announced that an international consortium consisting of French, Spanish and Turkish companies as well as Deutsche Bank was awarded $17.5 billion to implement the Baghdad Metro project. The project is estimated to be completed in May 2029.

The Chemins de Fer Ottomans d'Anatolie, founded on 4 October 1888, was a railway company that operated in the Ottoman Empire. The company was headquartered in Istanbul.
The State Railways of the Republic of Turkey, abbreviated as TCDD, is a government-owned national railway company responsible for the ownership and maintenance of railways in Turkey, as well as the planning and construction of new lines. TCDD was formed on 4 June 1929 as part of the nationalisation of railways in Turkey.
Line M5, officially referred to as the M5 Üsküdar–Samandıra Merkez line, is a rapid transit line of the Istanbul Metro System. It is colored deep purple on the maps and route signs. M5 is the second rapid transit line on the Asian side of Istanbul, the other in service since August 2012, the M4. Furthermore, it is the first driverless rapid transit line in Turkey.
The Samsun Light Rail Transit System is a light rail transit system located in Samsun and Atakum, Turkey. The 36.5 km (22.7 mi) Samsun Tramway connects Ondokuz Mayıs University to Samsun Stadium. The system was constructed in three phases between 2010 and 2019. The tram line is the only urban rail system in the Black Sea Region pending the construction of the Trabzon Tram. The system carries 90,000 passengers daily and is one of the busiest tram systems in Turkey.
The Great Istanbul Tunnel is an under-construction multi-use highway and railway undersea tunnel in Istanbul, Turkey to cross the Bosphorus strait. It will be the third and the longest tunnel crossing the Bosphorus strait, at a length of 6.5 km, surpassing the Eurasia Tunnel at 5.4 km and the Marmaray Tunnel at 13.5 km.
The Meerut Metro is an under-construction rapid transit system, which will serve the city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is being built in two phases, of which the first phase with the first line will cover 23.6 km (14.7 mi) with 13 stations, from Modipuram to Meerut South. It will have nine elevated, three underground stations, one at-grade station as the depot station at Modipuram, and four stations integrated with the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System on a single corridor, making the metro the first such rapid transit system in India to be merged directly with a regional transit system. The second phase will include a second line covering 15 km (9.3 mi) from Shradhapuri Phase-II to Jagrati Vihar, with 12 stations, out of which seven will be elevated and five will be underground, thereby taking the overall length to 38.6 km (24.0 mi). The metro will also be the fastest metro of India, at an operational speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).
TCDD Transport or Turkish State Railways Transport is a government-owned railway company responsible for the operations of most passenger and freight rail in Turkey. The company was formed on 14 June 2016, splitting off from Turkish State Railways (TCDD) to take over railway operations, while TCDD would continue to administer railway infrastructure. TCDD Taşımacılık officially began operations on 1 January 2017.
Ankara Tren Garı, alternatively known as Ankara YHT railway station and abbreviated as ATG, is a mixed-use commercial building in Ankara, Turkey. The building houses a shopping mall, a five-star hotel and commercial offices, as well as a concourse for YHT high-speed trains.
The Gebze Metro is an under-construction rapid transit system in Gebze and Darıca, Turkey. The system consists of a single 15.4 km (9.6 mi) long line running north from Darıca to Gebze. The line will interchange with TCDD Taşımacılık high-speed and intercity trains along with Marmaray commuter trains to Istanbul at Gebze railway station. The metro system will be the first network to exist outside of a provincial capital in Turkey, as Gebze and Darıca are located within the Kocaeli Province.
The M2 line, also referred as Üçyol–Çamlıkule Line is a planned ATO rapid transit line in İzmir, Turkey. The line has a total length of 11.3 km (7.0 mi) and would begin at Üçyol and run southeast into Buca. When completed, the line will become the seventh driverless metro line in Turkey, and the first in Izmir, after the M5, M7, M8, M11, M12 and M14 lines in Istanbul. Construction started in 14 February 2022 and the line is expected to enter service in 2027. It will cost $765 million, and the yearly expected profit from operation is $45 million.
Konyaray is a commuter rail line under construction in Konya, Turkey. It will consist of one, 26 km line running from Yaylapınar to the Konya Organized Industry Zone. The system will have 19 stops and will run via the airport and the Konya railway station. The name, like all commuter rail system names in Turkey, is a portmanteau of the word Konya and ray, which is the Turkish word for rail. The goal of the line is to provide better transport links for Konya's industrial zones.
