Korzo is a pedestrian street in the center of Rijeka, Croatia. 450 meters long, it is Rijeka's main shopping street, home to several shopping centers, shops, boutiques, and cafes. The street is also home to several of the city's iconic buildings, including the Rijeka City Tower, which leads through a passage to the Old Town. The street's Croatian name derives from the Italian Corso, meaning "main street.".
Construction of the street began in 1780 after the old city walls were demolished and the moat filled in by order of the Austrian Emperor Joseph II. However, it was not until the beginning of the 20th century and the construction of representative buildings in the Neoclassical, Secession and Modernist styles that the street began to take on the appearance it has today.
