The Kuki People's Alliance (abbreviated asKPA) is an Indian state-level political party in Manipur. [2] [3] [4] The Party has 2 MLAs in Manipur Legislative Assembly, making it, largest opposition party in Manipur after Congress. [5] The party's logo has interesting symbols of Hornbill and Star of David, with quote "Integrity, Development, Coexistence", the Star of David.

History

KPA was formed by former Indian Foreign Service officer Tongmang Haokip and Wilson L Hangshing on January 12, 2022. [6] [7]

Electoral Performance

The party won 2 seats in the 2022 Manipur Legislative Assembly election. [8] [9] [10] The KPA is mainly based on the interests of the Kuki people. [11] [12] [13] KPA supported BJP in Manipur and became an ally of BJP in its government. [14] KPA withdraw support from Biren Singh government in August 2023 citing the reason as failure of NDA government in 2023 Manipur violence. [15]

Rajkumar Imo Singh, also known as R.K. Imo Singh is an Indian politician from the State of Manipur and a former member of the Indian National Congress. He was expelled from Indian National Congress in 2020 for voting in favour of BJP Rajya Sabha Candidate Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in November 2021. He is the eldest son of Rajkumar Jaichandra Singh, the first Union Minister from Manipur in the erstwhile ministry of Rajiv Gandhi. He was subsequently deputed as the Chief Minister of the State. His grandfather R.K. Birchandra Singh was the first Congress President of the State of Manipur when Manipur attained statehood. R.K. Imo Singh is also the President of Manipur Cricket Association, affiliated to BCCI.

On 3 May 2023, ethnic violence erupted in India's north-eastern state of Manipur between the Meitei people, a majority that lives in the Imphal Valley, and the Kuki-Zo tribal community from the surrounding hills. According to government figures, as of 15 September, 175 people have been killed in the violence. 1,108 others were injured while 32 are missing. 4,786 houses were burnt and 386 religious structures including temples and churches were vandalized. The violence left more than 70,000 people displaced from their homes. Unofficial figures are higher.

<i>Naharolgi Thoudang</i> Meitei language newspaper

The Naharolgi Thoudang is an Indian Meitei language daily newspaper, circulated mainly in the Northeast Indian state of Manipur. Since Meitei language is written predominantly in both Meitei script and Bengali script, Naharolgi Thoudang is printed in different editions of the two writing systems.

The International Meeteis Forum is a Meitei ethnic advocacy group in the Indian state of Manipur. Its objectives are to assert Meitei indigeneity in Manipur, to unify Meiteis around the world, to campaign for the territorial integrity of the Manipur state and to block the influx of alleged foreigners. Founded in 2012 by a retired army officer R. K. Rajendro, it later teamed up with the Federation of Haomee with similar ideological motivations. Both the organisations generated free-flowing hate speech against the Kuki community of Manipur, labelling them as "immigrants" or "foreigners", which was instrumental in the generation of 2023 Manipur violence.
