LP III is the third album by the Minneapolis punk rock band The Soviettes. It was released on CD and LP on June 25, 2005, to mixed critical reviews.
LP III continued the Soviettes' trend of numerically naming their albums (their previous two albums being LP and LP II ). [1] Unlike the previous two which were signed with Adeline Records, this album was signed with Fat Wreck Chords. [2] Reflecting on the change, bandmember Maren "Sturgeon" Macosko noted in an interview that "[t]he biggest difference between Adeline and Fat is, well, the size." [3] The second track on the album, "¡Paranoia Cha Cha Cha!", was first released on April 20, 2004, on the Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1 compilation, part of the Rock Against Bush series. [4] The disc was produced by Fat Wreck Chords, making "¡Paranoia Cha Cha Cha!" the first Soviettes track on the label. [5]
The other tracks on the album were recorded at the Terrarium Studios in Northeast Minneapolis during February, 2005. [6] [7] As before, Annie Holoien and Maren "Sturgeon" Macosko played guitar, Danny Henry played the drums, and Susy Sharp played the bass guitar while all four bandmembers sang. [7] [8] Every track on the album clocked in at under three minutes in length. [9] The album was released on June 28, 2005, on CD and limited-edition pink vinyl, of which 220 copies were pressed. [10] "Roller Girls" was used from 2010 to 2016 as a "hype video" for the Minnesota RollerGirls, the roller derby league which inspired the song, and continued to be used afterward as the skate-out theme for the B-Team Minnesota Nice.
In early September, 2005, Macosko hinted that there would be an LP IV in the future. [3] This never happened, as the band broke up thereafter. [11] Nonetheless, the band reunited in 2010 to play several shows in the Twin Cities and released a fourth album, called Rarities . [12]
LP III was met with mixed reviews, although it was professionally reviewed only a few times. It was given a positive review in Allmusic, noting its melodies and harmonies and calling it "the Soviettes' best-performed record yet". The service did note the short length of the album as its downfall, but otherwise had no negative feedback and rated the album as a four out of five. [2]
In a review from IGN, the album was noted as a disappointment in comparison to LP II, noting only "Multiply and Divide" and "¡Paranoia Cha Cha Cha!" as bright spots on the album. ("¡Paranoia Cha Cha Cha!" was discounted, however, since it had already been out since the previous year and was thus a repeat.) They gave the album a six and a half out of ten. [13]
NOFX is an American punk rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1983. Bassist/lead vocalist Fat Mike, rhythm guitarist Eric Melvin and drummer Erik Sandin are original founding and longest-serving members of the band, who have appeared on every release by the band, although Sandin departed briefly in 1985, only to rejoin the following year. El Hefe joined the band in 1991 to play lead guitar and trumpet, rounding out the best-known iteration of the lineup.

Leftöver Crack is an American punk rock band formed in 1998, following the breakup of Choking Victim. The band is currently signed to Tankcrimes for CD releases, and Alternative Tentacles for vinyl releases. Leftöver Crack spans several different music genres including hardcore punk, ska, and crust punk. They write mostly political lyrics of a radical leftist nature, opposing religion, capitalism, and authority. Members of Leftöver Crack reside in the C-Squat on 155 Avenue C in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Natives of New York City, band members have a well-documented history of back-and-forth conflict with the NYPD which precedes the band's formation. The name "Leftöver Crack" is explained by Stza as being "an oxymoron", based on the idea that crack cocaine addicts are known for vigorous use and are unlikely to have any "leftover" crack.
Fat Wreck Chords is a San Francisco, California-based independent record label, focused on punk rock. It was started by NOFX lead singer Michael Burkett, and his wife at the time, Erin Burkett in 1990.
Rock Against Bush, Vol. 1 is a Rock Against Bush compilation album released on the Fat Wreck Chords record label. It contains a collection of songs, both released and unreleased, by various punk rock artists and includes a bonus DVD with political facts, commentary regarding the U.S. presidential election, 2004, footage from a David Cross stand-up comedy performance, as well as a few music videos. It was released on 20 April 2004.
Cool to Be You is the sixth studio album by the American punk rock band the Descendents, released on March 23, 2004, through Fat Wreck Chords. It was their first album of new studio material since 1996's Everything Sucks, which had been released through Epitaph Records. Following Everything Sucks, singer Milo Aukerman had returned to his biochemistry career while the other members—bassist Karl Alvarez, guitarist Stephen Egerton, and drummer Bill Stevenson—had continued with their other band All, releasing two more studio albums and a live album through Epitaph between 1998 and 2001 with singer Chad Price. Cool to Be You was recorded with Aukerman in 2002, but its release was delayed until 2004. The band switched from Epitaph to Fat Wreck Chords partly due to the enthusiasm of label head Fat Mike, who cited the Descendents as one of his favorite bands. Cool to Be You became the fourth Descendents release to chart, reaching #143 on the Billboard 200 and #6 amongst independent albums.
The Unraveling is the debut studio album by American punk rock band Rise Against, released on April 24, 2001 by Fat Wreck Chords. Following the release of the extended play Transistor Revolt in 2000, the band signed with Fat Wreck Chords and began working on the album at Sonic Iguana Studios with producer Mass Giorgini. Musically, The Unraveling is rooted in melodic hardcore, which later came to be the band’s signature style; conversely, its lyrics differ from their more politically-driven later work, focusing more on personal relationships and issues.
The Epoxies were an American new wave band from Portland, Oregon, formed in 2000. Heavily influenced by new wave, the band jokingly described themselves as robot garage rock. Members included FM Static on synthesizers, guitarist Viz Spectrum, lead singer Roxy Epoxy, bass guitarist Shock Diode, and drummer Ray Cathode. They grew in popularity due in large part to extensive touring in both the United States and Europe where they showcased frantically paced, highly energetic on-stage productions. They were known for using special effects for their live act and sporting home-made costumes, sometimes made mostly of duct tape.

Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy is the second studio album by the punk rock band Against Me!, released on November 3, 2003 by Fat Wreck Chords. It was the group's first release for the label and their first album with bassist Andrew Seward, who had replaced original bassist Dustin Fridkin the previous year. The album was produced by Rob McGregor, who had also produced their first album Against Me! Is Reinventing Axl Rose (2002). Two singles were released in support of the album, "Cavalier Eternal" and "Sink, Florida, Sink", though each features different versions of the songs than those found on the album. As the Eternal Cowboy was Against Me!'s first album to reach the Billboard charts, reaching No. 36 on Top Independent Albums.

Never Trust a Hippy is an EP by the American punk rock band NOFX, released March 14, 2006 through Fat Wreck Chords. Released a month in advance of the band's tenth studio album, Wolves in Wolves' Clothing, the EP includes two tracks from the album and four others recorded during the album's recording sessions. The EP was made available for streaming on March 12 via Alternative Press.
