Caifanes: La Historia is a compilation album by Mexican rock band Caifanes released almost two years after their sudden breakup. Singles from 1987 to 1994, including two previously unedited live recordings are included in this 24-track album. Disc 1 contains singles from 1987 to 1990; disc 2 contains singles from 1992 to 1994.

Caifanes is a Mexican rock band formed in Mexico City in 1987. The group achieved commercial success during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The original lineup of members consisted of Saúl Hernández, Sabo Romo (bass), Alfonso André (drums) and Diego Herrera. Alejandro Marcovich later joined as lead guitarist. Caifanes' style can be described as a hybrid of British new wave, progressive rock and Latin percussion underscored by deep, somber and Latin American-Mexican Spanish-influenced lyrics and the vocal style of Saúl Hernández. Members of Caifanes have cited The Cure, The Beatles and King Crimson as major influences. Adrian Belew produced their third studio album, El Silencio, and made a guest appearance on the track Piedra.

Reincidentes is a Spanish rock/punk rock band. They were formed in the 1980s as Incidente Local, by Manuel Pizarro on drums, Juan Barea on guitar, and Fernando Medina on bass and vocals. They performed their first live concert in 1987 at University of Seville. After they became finalists at a local rock contest and were joined by sax player José Luis Nieto, they recorded their self-titled debut album in 1989 released by '"Discos Trilita". Héroes del Silencio was a Spanish rock band from Zaragoza, formed by guitarist Juan Valdivia and singer Enrique Bunbury. The lineup was completed by bassist Joaquín Cardiel and drummer Pedro Andreu. During the 1980s they experienced success around Spain and the Americas, and in various European countries including Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Yugoslavia, and Portugal. They established themselves as one of the major contributors to the Rock en español scene and are considered to be one of the all-time best bands in that genre. Their trademarks are their intricate lyrics, complicated arrangements and precise rhythm. After twelve years and numerous albums, the band broke up in 1996. When the lead singer Enrique Bunbury started a solo project, other members of the band also followed a different musical path. In 2007, as part of a 20-year anniversary celebration and 11 years after their break-up, they organized a 10-concert world tour.

Caifanes plays its music, being the first Mexican band and the second Spanish speaking band, by participating in this series during the month of October in 1994.

The 2nd annual Billboard Latin Music Awards which honor the most popular albums, songs, and performers in Latin music took place in Miami.
