Production

P. Kannamba, besides producing the film under her production company Sri Raja Rajeswari Films, starred as the female lead, while her husband K. B. Nagabhushanam was the director. [2] The film was shot at Gemini Studios, and many Gemini employees like music director M. D. Parthasarathy, cinematographer P. Ellappa, audiographer P. Ranga Rao, art director M. S. Janakiram, and make-up artist Sahadeva Rao Thapkere (a cousin of Dadasaheb Phalke) worked on it. [2] The screenplay was written by S. D. S. Yogiar, and editing was handled by N. K. Gopal. [1] The final length of the film was 15,196 feet (4,632 m). [3]

The soundtrack was composed by M. D. Parthasarathy, and the lyrics were written by S. D. S. Yogiar. [1]

Release and reception

Lakshmi was released on 19 December 1953. [3] Film historian Randor Guy said the film did not succeed commercially due to the "predictable nature of the story". [2]

Kadaru Nagabhushanam or K. B. Nagabhushanam was an Indian film director and producer in the 1940s to 1960s, working in Telugu and Tamil cinema. He was the husband of P. Kannamba. They established Rajarajeshwari Films and produced many mythological films starring Kannamba in the lead role including Harischandra. Their social film Navajeevanam on untouchability got the recognition of Madras State and was chosen as the best feature film.

She had more than 150 movies to her credit and acted in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films from the 1935 to 1986. Chandralekha is the soundtrack album for the 1948 film of the same name. It was composed by S. Rajeswara Rao, with lyrics by Papanasam Sivan and Kothamangalam Subbu. The background score was composed by M. D. Parthasarathy, who was assisted by R. Vaidyanathan and B. Das Gupta. The soundtrack album features 11 tracks in the original Tamil version, whereas the Hindi version has 13 tracks.
