Lamprima imberbis is a species of beetle in the family Lucanidae; for much of its history it was treated as a synonym of Lamprima aurata , but was restored to independent status in 2018. [1]

Of the five species in the genus Lamprima, only two occur on the Australian mainland: L. aurata and L. imberbis. The former is widely distributed, while imberbis is restricted to northeastern New South Wales. [1]

Stag beetle Family of insects

Stag beetles is a family of about 1,200 species of beetles in the family Lucanidae, currently classified in four subfamilies. Some species grow to over 12 centimetres, but most to about 5 cm (2 in).

Cyrtodactylus

Cyrtodactylus is a diverse genus of Asian geckos, commonly known as bent-toed geckos, bow-fingered geckos, and forest geckos. The genus has at least 300 described species as of 2020, which makes it the largest of all gecko genera.

Tragelaphus

Tragelaphus is a genus of medium- to large-sized spiral-horned antelopes. It contains several species of bovine, all of which are relatively antelope-like. Species in this genus tend to be large sized, lightly built, have long necks and considerable sexual dimorphism. Elands, including the common eland, are embedded within this genus meaning that Taurotragus must be subsumed into Tragelaphus to avoid paraphyly. Alternatively, Taurotragus could be maintained as a separate genus, if the nyala and the lesser kudu are relocated to their own monospecific genera: respectively, Nyala and Ammelaphus. Other generic synonyms include Strepsiceros and Boocercus. The name "Tragelaphus" comes from the mythical tragelaph.

Lesser kudu

The lesser kudu is a forest antelope found in East Africa. It is placed in the genus Tragelaphus and family Bovidae. It was first described by the English zoologist Edward Blyth in 1869. The head-and-body length is typically 110–140 cm (43–55 in). Males reach about 95–105 cm (37–41 in) at the shoulder, while females reach 90–100 cm (35–39 in). Males typically weigh 92–108 kg (203–238 lb) and females 56–70 kg (123–154 lb). The females and juveniles have a reddish-brown coat, while the males become yellowish grey or darker after the age of 2 years. Horns are present only on males. The spiral horns are 50–70 cm (20–28 in) long, and have two to two-and-a-half twists.

Scarabaeoidea Superfamily of beetles

Scarabaeoidea is a superfamily of beetles, the only subgroup of the infraorder Scarabaeiformia. Around 35,000 species are placed in this superfamily and some 200 new species are described each year. Its constituent families are also undergoing revision presently, and the family list below is only preliminary.

Apogon

Apogon is a large genus of fish in the family Apogonidae, the cardinalfishes. They are among the most common fish on coral reefs. Over 200 species have been classified in genus Apogon as members of several subgenera. Some of these subgenera, such as Ostorhinchus, have been elevated to genus status, leaving just over 50 species in the genus.

Murina

Murina is a genus of vesper bats.

Lucanus cervus Species of beetle

The European stag beetle is one of the best-known species of stag beetle in Western Europe, and is the eponymous example of the genus. L. cervus is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN Red List.

Phalacrognathus muelleri Species of beetle

Phalacrognathus muelleri, colloquially the rainbow stag beetle, is a species of beetle in the family Lucanidae. It is found in northern Queensland, Australia and New Guinea. It can come in red, green, black, and blue forms. It is the only species in its genus, Phalacrognathus, which is closely related to the genus Lamprima.

Southern myotis

The southern myotis is a species of vesper bat. It is found only in Argentina.

Ryssonotus Genus of beetles

Ryssonotus is a genus of stag beetles, containing the single species Ryssonotus nebulosus. The beetles are dark brown to mild maroon in colour and are found in eastern Australian continent.

The Lucanidae are a family of beetles that include the stag beetles. The family can be further subdivided in a taxonomy. The classification presented here follows Smith (2006), with the exception of the tribal classification within the Lucaninae.

Dinera ferina

Dinera ferina (Fallen) is a species of fly in the family Tachinidae. In June 2018, the Bulletin of Insectology wrote that Dinera ferina was "confirmed to be a parasitoid of larvae of the two Italian Platycerus species, Platycerus caprea and Platycerus caraboides (L.) ."

Lamprima Genus of beetles

Lamprima is a genus of beetles in the family Lucanidae that contains five species. They are found in Australasia.

Lamprima aurata Species of beetle

The golden stag beetle is a species of beetles in the family Lucanidae. It measures between 15 and 25 mm in length and is relatively common throughout Australia, and fairly variable in coloration, so has been given many names by various authors. In Tasmania, this species is referred to by the "common name" of Christmas beetle, a name that is normally used for beetles in the family Scarabaeidae, genus Anoplognathus. Females are smaller than the males, and males have the mandibles enlarged and prolonged forwards. The colour of the males is typically metallic golden green or golden yellow, while females may be blue, blue-green or also dull brown. These beetles are sapro-xylophagous, feeding only on dead wood, mainly Eucalyptus species (Myrtaceae) or Acacia.

Lamprima insularis Species of beetle

The Lord Howe Stag Beetle is a species of beetles in the Family Lucanidae, that is endemic to Lord Howe Island.

Typhlocybinae

Typhlocybinae is a subfamily of insects in the leafhopper family, Cicadellidae. This is currently the second largest leafhopper subfamily based on the number of described species, but researchers believe there are so many taxa yet undescribed that it is probably the largest subfamily. Approximately 6000 species have been described to science so far.

Safrina is a genus of stag beetles, endemic to Australia.

The Weipa bandy bandy(Vermicella parscauda) is a species of snake in the family Elapidae, described in 2018.
