The Lanarkshire Area Tourism Partnership (formerly Lanarkshire Strategic Tourism Marketing Partnership) created the strategy for tourism and economic development in Lanarkshire under the brand VisitLanarkshire in 2005. [1] This partnership is made up of representatives from North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire councils, VisitScotland, and private organisations across Lanarkshire, and is funded by the Lanarkshire Tourism Association. The development of tourism is in line with the objectives set out in the Lanarkshire Tourism Action Plan. [2]

Economic development has a direct relationship with the environment and environmental issues. Economic development is very often confused with industrial development, even in some academic sources.
Lanarkshire, also called the County of Lanark is a historic county in the central Lowlands of Scotland.
North Lanarkshire Scottish Gaelic: Siorrachd Lannraig a Tuath) is one of 32 council areas of Scotland. It borders onto the northeast of the City of Glasgow and contains many of Glasgow's suburbs and commuter towns and villages. It also borders East Dunbartonshire, Falkirk, Stirling, South Lanarkshire and West Lothian. The council covers parts of the traditional counties of Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Stirlingshire.
The partnership's VisitLanarkshire initiative was introduced to support growth in the tourism sector, which has been higher than most other sectors in the local area [3] and makes a significant impact to Lanarkshire's economy, attracting over 3 million visitors a year and employing over 6,000 people. [4]
A partnership is an arrangement where parties, known as partners, agree to cooperate to advance their mutual interests. The partners in a partnership may be individuals, businesses, interest-based organizations, schools, governments or combinations. Organizations may partner to increase the likelihood of each achieving their mission and to amplify their reach. A partnership may result in issuing and holding equity or may be only governed by a contract.
An economy is an area of the production, distribution, or trade, and consumption of goods and services by different agents. Understood in its broadest sense, 'The economy is defined as a social domain that emphasize the practices, discourses, and material expressions associated with the production, use, and management of resources'. Economic agents can be individuals, businesses, organizations, or governments. Economic transactions occur when two parties agree to the value or price of the transacted good or service, commonly expressed in a certain currency. However, monetary transactions only account for a small part of the economic domain.
Tourism is travel for pleasure or business; also the theory and practice of touring, the business of attracting, accommodating, and entertaining tourists, and the business of operating tours. Tourism may be international, or within the traveller's country. The World Tourism Organization defines tourism more generally, in terms which go "beyond the common perception of tourism as being limited to holiday activity only", as people "traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure and not less than 24 hours, business and other purposes".
One of the partnership's main tasks is to manage local information through its dedicated website www.visitlanarkshire.com, launched in 2009 [5] which is a database to help locals and tourists find information on towns, attractions, accommodation, news and events in Lanarkshire. This tool is useful as it helps 2,000 users a week to find information, and benefits in particular a local audience. Social media is another tool used to promote local events in the area to the public and to push seasonal marketing campaigns which provide visitor boosts in Spring and Autumn.

The partnership works in close contact with accommodation providers and attractions in the area to maintain standards set out by VisitScotland's quality grading schemes. Through the VisitLanarkshire name, the partnership also communicates the strategic aims set out by the Scottish Tourism Alliance to ensure its partners are working in parallel with the rest of Scotland.
Lodging refers to the renting of a short-term dwelling. People who travel and stay away from home for more than a day need lodging for sleep, rest, food, safety, shelter from cold temperatures or rain, storage of luggage and access to common household functions. Lodging is a form of the sharing economy.

The partnership dedicated resources into producing a website promoting venues in Lanarkshire which was launched in 2012, after recognising that business tourism is a key growth sector in the tourism industry.
Business tourism or business travel is a more limited and focused subset of regular tourism. During business tourism (traveling), individuals are still working and being paid, but are doing so away from both their workplace and home.
Agritourism or agrotourism, as it is defined most broadly, involves any agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch. Agritourism has different definitions in different parts of the world, and sometimes refers specifically to farm stays, as in Italy. Muirkirk Enterprise Group (MEG) was set up in 1999 with the aim of regenerating the rural village of Muirkirk which was, at one time, labelled the most socially deprived village in Scotland. The International Inbound Travel Association, formerly known as the Receptive Services Association of America, is a 501(c)6 trade association of major North American–based receptive tour operator companies and suppliers. Based in Lexington, Kentucky, IITA is the only association focused solely on international inbound travel to the United States.
Capital Region Tourism is a tourism partnership in Wales which aims to promote tourism in the Cardiff Capital Region. CRT is based at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff in the Penylan area of Cardiff.
The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport was created on January 18, 2010 when the Ministry of Culture and the Minstry of Tourism were combined under one ministry. Sport was added to the portfolio in 2011. It is responsible for the development of policies and programs and the operation of programs related to tourism, arts, cultural industries, heritage sectors and libraries, in Ontario. The Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau is the official tourism promotion agency for the city of Norfolk, Virginia and a travel and visitor resource for information on hotels, packages, attractions, events and things to do. VisitNorfolk is a private 501 (c) (6) organization located in Downtown Norfolk at 232 E. Main Street, Norfolk, Virginia 23510. VisitNorfolk's objective is to generate economic growth for Norfolk by producing high volumes of visitors, tax revenues and travel related jobs. The organization expands the role of travel and tourism in the Norfolk economy via sales, marketing and customer service.
The London Tourist Board was established in 1963 and became the official regional tourist board for London under the Development of Tourism Act in 1969. It was responsible for the marketing and promotion of the capital, providing tourist information services, and recommending improvements to the infrastructure and facilities for the growth of tourism. In 2003, it was renamed VisitLondon. In 2011, it was put into administration by the Greater London Authority, and the tourism responsibility was transferred to a new company, London & Partners.
Tourism Partnership North Wales (TPNW) is the Regional Tourism Partnership (RTP) serving North Wales. Visit Wales, and part of the National Assembly for Wales initiated the formation of 4 RTPs across Wales to receive devolved resources and responsibilities for many aspects of tourism, marketing and development.
Lanark Loch is a man-made loch in the town of Lanark, South Lanarkshire. It was built in the 19th century as a space for recreation for the townsfolk. Facilities on the site include a pitch-and-putt course, children's play facilities, boating and fishing. The Inn on the Loch sits on the north-east bank of the loch and is a long established business, providing limited accommodation as well as a café and restaurant.
The Seychelles Tourism Board (STB), a public/private sector body headed by CEO Mrs. Sherin Francis, with Mrs. Kathleen Mason as Chairperson, oversees most aspects of Seychelles' tourism industry whose Minister is Mr. Didier Dogley. The Seychelles Tourism Board is responsible for the promotion and marketing of the Seychelles islands as the preferred tourist destination.
Industrial tourism is tourism in which the desired destination includes industrial sites peculiar to a particular location. The concept is not new, but has taken on renewed interest in recent times, with both industrial heritage sites and modern industry attracting tourism.
