Lance Victor George Haggith OBE (born 14 May 1960 in Watford, England) is the founder of the Sports Traider charity in the UK, and winner of the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero award. He was a Royal Navy reservist for 6 years, and a National League basketball player and coach.
Haggith was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2022 Birthday Honours for charitable and voluntary services to vulnerable people, particularly during Covid-19. [1]

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year is an awards ceremony that takes place annually in December. Devised by Paul Fox in 1954, it originally consisted of just one, the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. Several new awards have been introduced, and currently eight awards are presented. The first awards to be added were the Team of the Year and Overseas Personality awards, which were introduced in 1960. A Lifetime Achievement Award was first given in 1995 and again in 1996, and has been presented annually since 2001. In 1999, three more awards were introduced: the Helen Rollason Award, the Coach Award, and the Newcomer Award, which was renamed to Young Sports Personality of the Year in 2001. The newest is the Unsung Hero Award, first presented in 2003. In 2003, the 50th anniversary of the show was marked by a five-part series on BBC One called Simply the Best – Sports Personality. It was presented by Gary Lineker and formed part of a public vote to determine a special Golden Sports Personality of the Year. That year Steve Rider and Martyn Smith wrote a book reflecting on the 50-year history of the award and the programme. The event was held outside London for the first time in 2006, when tickets were made available to the public.

The BBC Sports Unsung Hero Award is an award given annually as part of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony each December. The award is given to the sportsperson who has made a substantive yet unrecognised contribution to sport. Sportspeople are nominated by the public, and must be aged 16 years or over on 1 January that year. Nominees may not put themselves forward or be nominated by a member of their immediate family. A nominee must actively help others participate in a sport at any level on a voluntary basis. The work they do must not be part of their job or take part within their places of work, and they must not be a participant in the sporting group they are helping. Previous winners of the award are ineligible for nomination. One winner is selected from each of the twelve BBC English Regions, and the three national regions: BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, and BBC Northern Ireland. A judging panel then chooses the Unsung Hero winner from the fifteen regional winners.

Brian Ernest Maitland Prophet (1928–2004) was President of the Bedfordshire Branch of the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmens Family Association and a Deputy Lieutenant for Bedfordshire. He was awarded the OBE, TD and made Deputy Lieutenant for Bedfordshire in recognition of his long association and work with the Territorial Army, the Royal Signals and the Bedfordshire ACF as well as being an active participant with service charities.

Marcellus Baz heads charity-based organisations in Nottingham, offering community sports facilities together with outreach to, and mentoring of, young people. In 2016, Baz was named the BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards for his support of young people in Nottingham, UK. The same year he also received the British Empire Medal for services to youth boxing and the community.
