The Langkawi Legend Park (Malay : Taman Lagenda Langkawi) is a park in Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah, Malaysia.

History

The park was built at a cost of MYR37 million and was officially opened on 27 April 1996 by reclaiming part of a waterfront in Kuah after 2 years of construction from the idea of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. [1] [2] [3]

Architecture

The park was designed by architect Tuan Syed Ahmad Ibrahim from the Syed Ahmad Ibrahim Architect Firm. [3] Gondowana stone wall stands at the entrance of the park to show the formation of Langkawi Island from plate tectonic movement. The wall depicts the main Langkawi Island with its small islands surrounding it. The entrance area features a large square made of marble and black stones decorated with pillar lamps. [1]

Exhibitions

The park spreads over an area of 50 hectares with a total of 17 sculptures telling legends and myths about Langkawi from prehistory until modern times. [4] [1] There are also 4 artificial lakes and a beach. [2]

The park opens everyday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. [4]

Mukhriz Mahathir Malaysian politician

Dato' Seri Utama Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir is a Malaysian politician who twice served as the 11th and 13th Menteri Besar of Kedah from May 2013 to February 2016 and again from May 2018 to May 2020. Kedahan Malay people

Kedahan Malay or commonly known as Orang Utara ('Northerners'), is a sub-group of Malays who are native to northern Malaysia and in southernmost parts of Thailand and Burma. They are among the earliest settlers in the Malay peninsula. Kedahan Malays comprised at least 15% of the total Malaysian Malay population and constitute over 75% of the Kedah state population, thus making them the largest ethnic group in the state of Kedah.

Dato' Paduka Abu Bakar Taib is a former Malaysian politician, who represented the seat of Langkawi in the Parliament of Malaysia from 1995 to 2013. Nawawi Ahmad Malaysian politician

Dato' Ir. Haji Nawawi bin Ahmad is a Malaysian politician. He was the member of the Parliament of Malaysia for the seat of Langkawi, Kedah from 2013 to 2018. Before his election in 2013, he served two terms as the member of the Kedah State Legislative Assembly for Kuah from 2004 to 2013. A member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), he is the head of the party's Langkawi division.

Kedah United FC is a Malaysian football team based in the city of Alor Setar representing the state of Kedah, Malaysia. Newly founded in 2012, the team were registered under the name of the Kedah Malays Football Association (KMFA).
