Plateau State is a north central Nigerian state. It is located near the centre of Nigeria and includes a range of hills surrounding the Jos Plateau. Plateau State is described as "The Home of Peace and Tourism". The state has a population of around 4.7 million people. Its capital city is Jos.
Taraba is a state in north-eastern Nigeria, named after the Taraba River, which traverses the southern part of the state. It is known as "Nature's Gift to the Nation". Its capital is Jalingo. The state's main ethnic groups are the Fulani, Mumuye, Mambilla, Jukun, Kuteb, Karimjo Wurkun, Tiv, Yandang, Ndola, Ichen, Jenjo, Tigon, and Jibu. The northern part is mainly dominated by the Fulani, Wurkun, Mumuye and Sho. The southern part is dominated by the Jukun, Tiv, Chamba, Kuteb and Ichen. The central region is mainly occupied by the Fulani, Mambilla, Ndola, Tigon, Jibu, Wurbo, and Daka people. There are about 80 distinct ethnic groups and their languages in the state.
Tarok is an agrarian society in the hills and on the plains southeast of Plateau State, Middle Belt, Nigeria.
The Berom is one of the largest autochthonous ethnic group in Plateau State, central Nigeria. Covering about four local government areas, which include Riyom, Jos North, Jos South and Barkin Ladi (Gwol). Berom people are also found in some southern Kaduna State local government areas like Fadan Karshe with Berom settlers tracing their origins to Za'ang a Berom district on the Jos Plateau. They emigrated during the British Colonial Government of Nigeria. A large number of this tribe, if not all, are Christians. Statistics also have it that a large number of the population of Plateau State is made up of Berom people.
Wase is a town and Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State, Nigeria, situated some 216 km south east of Jos, the Plateau State capital. It shares its name with the nearby Wase River. The population of the LGA was 159,861 people as of 2006, with an urban area of 1750 km².
The "Langtang Mafia" is a rumored clique of military men from Langtang, Plateau State who hold or have held positions of power in the Nigerian government. The term is often used in reference to the 1985 – 1993 Babangida junta. Purported members have included Lt Gen Joshua Dogonyaro, Lt Gen Jeremiah Useni (retired), Gen Domkat Bali, Brig Gen John Nanzip Shagaya, and Lt Gen Muhammad A. Najib (retired) as well.
Domkat Yah Bali was a Nigerian army four-star general, who was Minister of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff from 1984 to 1990, and a member of the Supreme Military Council of 1984–1985, and the Armed Forces Ruling Council of 1985–1990.
Jonah Domfa Wuyep is a former Chief of the Air Staff of the Nigerian Air Force. As an air force pilot, he primarily flew the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.

In the Third Nigerian Republic, there were the senatorial districts of Plateau North, Plateau East and Plateau West. The House of Representatives constituencies consisted of the individual Local Government Areas of the state qualified at that time as Federal constituencies.

Langtang South is a Local Government Area in Plateau State, Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Mabudi.
John Nanzip Shagaya was a Nigerian senator and former military officer who was in April 2007 elected to represent the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State as member of the Nigerian Senate for Plateau South. He ran for reelection in April 2011 on the Labour Party (LP) platform, but was defeated by Victor Lar of the People's Democratic Party(PDP). As a non commissioned officer (NCO) with the 2nd Reconnaissance Squadron in Abeokuta, he participated in the Nigerian counter-coup of 1966.
Chief (Dr.) Solomon Daushep Lar was a Nigerian politician who has held various offices at the National level for over 50 years. He was a member of the first national parliament when Nigeria gained independence in 1960. He was elected governor of Plateau State on the Nigerian People's Party (NPP) platform during the Nigerian Second Republic, holding office from October 1979 until the Military coup of 31 December 1983 that brought General Muhammadu Buhari to power. Later, he was founding chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
Victor Rampyal Lar is a Nigerian politician who was elected Senator for the Plateau South constituency of Plateau State, Nigeria in the April 2011 national elections. Lar ran on the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform.
Nnenna Ijeoma Elendu Ukeje is a Nigerian politician who was the representative for Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, Nigeria. Having had a successful career in the private sector, Nnenna was elected to the House of Representatives in 2007, She was re-elected to the position on 29 May 2011 and also served as the Chairman house committee on foreign affairs. In the 2015 general elections she was also re-elected to the house of representative and once again appointed as the house committee chairman on foreign affairs.
Beni Lar born is a politician of the People's Democratic Party from Plateau State, Nigeria. She was a member of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives from Langtang North, Langtang South federal Constituency of Plateau State. She was first elected to the house in 2007 and in 2019, she was re-elected to a fourth term in the house.
Solomon Selcap Dalung is a Nigerian lawyer, academic and politician who served as the Minister of Youth and Sports of Nigeria from November 2015 to May 2019. He has served in the Nigerian Prisons Service, the University of Jos as a lecturer and as Chairman of Langtang South Local Government in Plateau State.

The 2023 Plateau State gubernatorial election was held on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Plateau State, concurrent with elections to the Plateau State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election — which was postponed from its original 11 March date — will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Simon Lalong was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term. Caleb Mutfwang, a former Mangu Local Government Chairman, gained the office for the PDP by a margin of ~4% over APC nominee Nentawe Yilwatda.
The 2023 Nigerian presidential election in Plateau State will be held on 25 February 2023 as part of the nationwide 2023 Nigerian presidential election to elect the president and vice president of Nigeria. Other federal elections, including elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, will also be held on the same date while state elections will be held two weeks afterward on 11 March.
