Lauren Henderson (born November 5, 1986, in Marblehead, Massachusetts) [2] is an American jazz singer based in New York and Miami. She has released nine albums and one EP through her label Brontosaurus Records. [3]

Early life and education

As a child, Henderson sang in both church and school choirs. [4] She attended Wheaton College, where she studied Music and Hispanic Studies. [5] She later earned an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Brown University and the IE Business School in Spain. [6] She also studied abroad in Mexico and Spain, studying traditional music and flamenco singing and dance. She later moved to New York and studied with Paquito D'Rivera, Barry Harris, and Jane Monheit. Henderson releases music through her own label, Brontosaurus Records. [7] [3]

Career

In 2011, she released her self-titled debut album. [8] [1] Her second album, A La Madrugada, which she produced and arranged, was released in 2015. It peaked at 90 on the JazzWeek charts. [9] The song "Accede" from the album appeared in the film The Drowning . [1] [10] In March 2018, she released the album Ármame, which charted in the JazzWeek Top 40. In October 2018, Henderson released the EP Riptide. She released the album Alma Oscura in June 2019. The album debuted at #25 on the JazzWeek chart for the week of July 29, 2019. [11] Henderson's song "El Ritmo" was featured in El Juego de Las Llaves . [12] Two songs by Hendeson were featured in a production of the play Romeo y Julieta, "Alma Oscura" and "Ven Muerte". [13] [14] Her 2020 album, The Songbook Session, placed in the JazzWeek charts Top 5, and Top 50 year end chart. [15] [16] She also released a holiday album that year titled Classic Christmas. [17] Henderson's album Musa was released on June 11, 2021. [18] [19]

Cheek to Cheek is the first collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, released on September 19, 2014, by Columbia and Interscope Records. It is Bennett's fifty-eighth studio album, and Gaga's fourth. The two first met at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City in 2011, and later recorded a rendition of "The Lady Is a Tramp" together, after which they began discussing plans of working on a jazz project. Cheek to Cheek consists of jazz standards by popular composers such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, and Irving Berlin. It was inspired by Bennett and Gaga's desire to introduce the songs to a younger generation, since they believed these tracks have a universal appeal.

Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Halsey. It was released on June 2, 2017, through Astralwerks. The album features guest appearances from Quavo, Lauren Jauregui and Cashmere Cat. Halsey co-wrote every song on the album, while production was handled by Lido and Benny Blanco, among others. Following its release, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the United States and the Canadian Albums Chart. The album was also certified 2× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in the US. In support of the album, Halsey embarked on the Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour (2017–2018). The album was described by Halsey as having more "radio friendly music" when compared to her previous releases. As a result, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom is primarily a pop and R&B record and features synth-pop and electropop.
