Laurent Lavigne (born May 16, 2001) is a Canadian sprint kayaker. [1] [2]

Career

At the 2019 World Junior Championships in Pitești, Romania, Lavigne won silver in the K-1 500 metres event. [3] This was the first medal at the World Junior Championships by a Canadian male in over 20 years. [1]

Lavigne made his senior debut in 2021. [1] At the 2023 Worlds, Lavigne finished in 10th in the K-4 500 metres, helping Canada qualify the boat for the 2024 Summer Olympics. [4] In September 2023, Lavigne was named to Canada's 2023 Pan American Games team. [5] At the games, Lavigne was part of the silver medal-winning K-4 500 metres team. [1]

In June 2024, Lavigne was named to Canada's 2024 Olympic team. [6] [7]

A sprint canoe is a canoe used in International Canoe Federation canoe sprint. It is an open boat propelled by one, two or four paddlers from a kneeling position, using single-bladed paddles. The difficulty of balance can depend on how wide or narrow the canoe is, although regularly the less contact a canoe has with the water the faster it goes. This makes the narrower boats much faster and popular when it comes to racing.

The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two top-tier Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation. They are usually held every non-Olympic year and have officially included paracanoe events since 2010; paracanoe-specific editions of this event are usually held in Summer Paralympic years.

Hugh Fisher, is a New Zealand-born Canadian sprint kayaker who competed from the mid-1970s to the late 1980s. He participated in three Summer Olympics: in 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; in 1984 in Los Angeles; and in 1988 in Seoul, Korea. He was also named to the 1980 Olympic team for Canada, but did not compete due to the Canadian boycott of those Games. At the 1984 Games with his racing partner Alwyn Morris, he won two medals, a gold in the K-2 1000 m and a bronze in the K-2 500 m events.

Thomas Hall, is an Olympic sprint canoeist from Pointe Claire, Quebec, Canada. Training with the Pointe-Claire Canoe Club, he began his international career in 1999, winning a gold medal in the C-1 1000 m event at the Junior World Championships. By the time of the 2008 Summer Olympics, he had made a total of 44 top three finishes in international canoeing competitions, including 14 wins. Among these were a gold and a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. At the Beijing Olympic Games, he won a bronze medal in the Men's C-1 1000 metres event.

Danuta Kozák is a Hungarian sprint canoeist. She has won one silver, one bronze and six Olympic gold medals, three of which in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, making her the first female to win K1, K2 and K4 at the same Olympics. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she won a gold medal in Women's K-4 500 metres, and bronze medal in Women's K-2 500 metres.

Émilie Fournel is a Canadian sprint kayaker who has competed since the late 2000s. She won a bronze medal in the K-1 4 x 200 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth, and in the K-1 5000 m at the 2015 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships.

Michelle Russell is a Canadian sprint kayaker.

Pierre-Luc Poulin is a Canadian sprint kayaker. He won several World Cup and international medals.

Andréanne Langlois is a Canadian sprint kayaker. She is the current Pan American Games champion in the women's K-2 500 m with Alanna Bray-Lougheed, as well as in the K-4 500 metres. She also added two individual Pan American Games silvers in 2019 in both the K-1 200 m, and K-1 500 m. Langlois competed as part of Canada's Olympic team at 2016 Rio Olympics.
