Lazzaro Pisani (15 December 1854 – 31 August 1932) was a Maltese painter who was born in Żebbuġ. He is considered to be one of the most important Maltese artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. [1] [2]
Pisani studied in Rome at the Accademia di San Luca but returned to Malta in 1874 after contracting malaria. [3] He received a financial award from the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. [4] In 1885, Pisani was awarded a silver medal at the Colonial Exhibition in London for his work the Death of Abel. He won another silver medal at the Colonial Exhibition of 1924. [3]
Pisani died at St. Paul's Bay. At the time of his death he was working on frescos in the churches of Siggiewi and Mġarr which he left unfinished. [3]
The artist's daughter, Maria Rosa Lazzaro, bequeathed a collection of eleven of her father's paintings to Heritage Malta in 2008 which were exhibited between 15 January – 25 March 2008. The exhibition also included a catalogue published on the occasion which was written by the art historian Lino Borg. [5]

Today's basilica was built between 1672 and 1678.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Paul, commonly known as St Paul's Cathedral or the Mdina Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Mdina, Malta, dedicated to St. Paul the Apostle. The cathedral was founded in the 12th century, and according to tradition it stands on the site of where Roman governor Publius met St. Paul following his shipwreck on Malta. The original cathedral was severely damaged in the 1693 Sicily earthquake, so it was dismantled and rebuilt in the Baroque style to a design of the Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafà between 1696 and 1705. The cathedral is regarded as Gafà's masterpiece.

The designers of Maltese stamps have been creating their works for the last 150 years. The most prolific designer of Maltese stamps was Emvin Cremona, who designed most of Malta's stamps from the late 1950s to the 1970s. Dates indicate the years stamps with the artist's design were used.
Vittorio Cassar, born Gio Vittorio Cassar, was a Maltese architect and military engineer. The son of the renowned architect Girolamo Cassar, he was admitted as a knight within the Order of St. John in 1587. He became the Order's resident engineer in the early 17th century, and he directed the upgrading of the Cittadella of Gozo between 1600 and 1603.

Andrea Vassallo was a Maltese architect. He designed buildings in various styles, including Neoclassicism, Rococo Revival, Neo-Gothic, Art Nouveau and Neo-Romanesque. His masterpiece is the basilica of Ta' Pinu in Gozo, while other notable works include the domes of the Ħamrun and Siġġiewi parish churches, Villa Rosa and the now-demolished Casa Said.
The Parish Church of St Cajetan of Thiene is a Roman Catholic parish church in Ħamrun, Malta, dedicated to Saint Cajetan. The church was constructed between 1869 and 1875 to designs of Giorgio Costantino Schinas, in a combination of architectural styles. The oratory and dome were added later on in the 1890s and 1950s; the latter was designed by Andrea Vassallo and it was constructed under the direction of Ġużè Damato.
Gianni Vella was a Maltese artist. After studying in Rome, he produced many religious works which can be found in many churches in the Maltese Islands, but he also produced some secular works including landscape paintings, cartoons and a stamp design.
The Parish Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic parish church in Mellieħa, Malta, dedicated to the Nativity of Mary. It was built between 1881 and 1898, and the dome and bell towers were completed between 1920 and 1940.
The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven is a Roman Catholic parish church in Mġarr, Malta, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. It was constructed between 1912 and 1946 on the site of an earlier church which had existed since around 1400. The building has a large dome with an elliptical plan; this shape is said to have been chosen because of its similarity to an egg, so as to encourage residents to sell eggs to raise funds for its construction.
