Leader Cheetah were an Australian indie rock band from Adelaide, South Australia, formed in 2007 by members of defunct Adelaide bands Pharaohs and Bad Girls of the Bible. The band toured nationally and appeared at festivals such as Splendour in the Grass, Big Day Out, St Jerome's Laneway Festival [1] and Come Together. The group released its debut studio album, The Sunspot Letters, in 2009, followed by their second album, Lotus Skies, in 2011. The group have also toured alongside such high-profile international acts as Interpol, Dinosaur Jr. and Dan Auerbach, Blitzen Trapper and Elbow. They disbanded in January 2016.

History

Leader Cheetah were formed in Adelaide in 2007 by Daniel Crannitch on lead vocals and guitar, his brother, Joel Crannitch, on drums, Mark Harding on bass guitar and Dan Pash on lead guitar and harmonies. [2] The Crannitch brothers were members of the Pharaohs, a dance-rock band; [2] while Pash was a member of Bad Girls of the Bible.

Pash later recalled "We knew each other from playing around in bands, but I think we started really bonding over drunken musical chats and just discovered we had a shared love of all this classic '70s stuff. Classic songwriting and everything from Link Wray to Lee Hazlewood and all that '70s west-coast stuff. And of course the big one was Neil Young and Crazy Horse." [3]

In March 2009 the group independently released their debut album, The Sunspot Letters, which peaked at No. 64 on the ARIA Albums Chart. [2] It was preceded by the single, "Bloodlines". In the wake of the album's release Leader Cheetah embarked on a series of national tours alongside Cloud Control. Also in 2009 front man, Dan Crannitch, was a contestant on SBS music program, RocKwiz , alongside Sarah Blasko. [4]

The group released their second album, Lotus Skies, in July 2011, which debuted at No. 98. [5] [6] One of its tracks, "Our Love", has feature vocals by Holly Throsby. [5]

In September 2011 they described Pash's hearing loss, "[a] combination of hearing damage and a congenital defect has eroded his hearing so badly he must wear earplugs and earmuffs whenever he performs or rehearses to protect what hearing he has left." [3] By December of that year they were performing acoustics sets with Pash replaced by Tom Spall on violin. [7]

They announced their disbandment in January 2016, "[it] feels like a good time to finally take the time and thank those involved with Leader Cheetah during its four and a half-year existence and say farewell. It was a hell of a ride and many amazing experiences were had." [8]

In mid 2016 Joel and Dan Crannitch reunited in Adelaide to form "The San Sebastian". [9] In May 2018 "The San Sebastian" released their first album, Alive on the Black Sea [10] , produced by Phil Ek.

Fowler's Live Music Awards

The Fowler's Live Music Awards took place from 2012 to 2014 to "recognise success and achievement over the past 12 months [and] celebrate the great diversity of original live music" in South Australia. Since 2015 they're known as the South Australian Music Awards. [11]

Wolf & Cub signed to Last Gang records in North America. Their third studio album, Heavy Weight, was released in 2013.

Australian Idol was a televised talent contest, screened on Channel Ten for seven seasons between 2003 and 2009. Several contestants were signed to record labels, while others released their music independently. Confession are an Australian metalcore band from Melbourne. The band was formed in 2008 by frontman Michael Crafter, who is best known as the former lead vocalist of metalcore bands I Killed the Prom Queen, Carpathian and Bury Your Dead. They have released one EP titled Can't Live, Can't Breathe and three albums: Cancer, The Long Way Home and Life and Death.

<i>Like It Like That</i> (album) 2009 studio album by Guy Sebastian

Like It Like That is the fifth album by Australian singer Guy Sebastian. The album was produced by David Ryan Harris and Fredrik Odesjo and was released in Australia on 23 October 2009 and in the US on 29 June 2010. The album contains a duet with Jordin Sparks, and also three tracks with John Mayer on guitar and backing vocals. It peaked at number six on the ARIA Albums Chart and gained platinum certification. The title track "Like It Like That" was one of the most successful singles of Sebastian's career. It reached number one on the ARIA Singles Chart, and achieved 4× platinum certification. "Art of Love" was also a top ten single, spending five months in the ARIA top 50 and double platinum certification. In 2010 Sebastian received six ARIA Music Award nominations for the album and two of its singles.

Mario Daniel Millo is an Australian musician and composer from Sydney, he was a member of symphonic rock group Sebastian Hardie from 1973 to their disbandment in 1977. Their debut album, Four Moments (1975) peaked at No. 13 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart. He has had a solo career and composed film and television soundtracks and scores. In 1978, he worked with Jon English on the soundtrack for the television series, Against the Wind and its related single, "Six Ribbons". Both album and single peaked in the Top 10 on the relevant Kent Music Report charts. The series had international release, known as Mot alla vindar/Mot alle vindar/Mod vinden (1980) in Scandinavian countries where the album and single reached No. 1 in Norway and No. 4 in Sweden. Millo's compositions have won Australian film industry awards for, The Lighthorsemen (1987) and television awards for, Brides of Christ (1991) and Changi (2001). Brides of Christ won an Australian Record Industry Association (ARIA) Music Award in 1992 for 'Best Original Soundtrack Album' - Millo was nominated for the same award in 1997 for G.P. and in 2002 for Changi.

The Shaolin Afronauts are an Afrobeat band based in Adelaide, Australia. Their music is heavily influenced by West African Afrobeat artists such as Fela Kuti, but also incorporates elements of avant-garde jazz, soul and other traditional African and Cuban percussive rhythms. They describe their music as "interstellar futurist afro-soul".

Watussi was a Sydney-based band that performed Afro-Colombian rock 'n' roots, with lyrics mainly sung in Spanish. The band's name is slang for "the most handsome man at the party". Their album Tequila, Sangre y Fuego was nominated for the 2008 ARIA Award for Best World Music Album. The band's lead was Colombian born singer-songwriter and producer Oscar Jimenez.
