Leath Correctional Institution (LCIW) is a South Carolina Department of Corrections prison for women located in unincorporated Greenwood County, South Carolina, near Greenwood. [1] Leath opened in 1991. [2] It is located just east of the Greenwood County Airport.

History

The prison opened in September 1991. [3]

In the early 1990s a company called Third Generation contracted the manufacture of women's underwear to 35 Leath prisoners. These prisoners produced about $1.5 million worth of clothing. J.C. Penney, Victoria's Secret, and other companies bought this underwear for resale. This was revealed in a 1995 National Institute for Justice study. The contract was terminated by the mid-1990s. [4]

Braille is a tactile writing system used by people who are visually impaired. It is traditionally written with embossed paper. Braille users can read computer screens and other electronic supports using refreshable braille displays. They can write braille with the original slate and stylus or type it on a braille writer, such as a portable braille notetaker or computer that prints with a braille embosser.

Lowell Correctional Institution is a women's prison in unincorporated Marion County, Florida, north of Ocala, in the unincorporated area of Lowell. A part of the Florida Department of Corrections, it serves as the primary prison for women in the state. Almost 3,000 women are incarcerated in the complex, which includes the Lowell Annex.
