Lenny Agbaire (born 4 March 2005) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Ayr United, on loan from Celtic.
Agbaire was born in Croydon, England. He holds dual citizenship with Scotland and Nigeria, reflecting his diverse heritage. Standing at 1.94 meters, his physical presence has been a significant asset in his defensive role.
Agbaire joined the Celtic youth academy in 2015 at the age of 10. He progressed through the ranks and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2021. During the 2023–24 season, he became a regular starter for Celtic B, competing in the Scottish Lowland League. His contributions were pivotal in the team's defensive lineup, and he played a crucial role in their Scottish Youth Cup victory in 2023, participating in the entire 120 minutes of the thrilling 6–5 win at Hampden Park.
Recognizing his potential and consistent performance, Celtic extended Agbaire's contract until the summer of 2026. [1]
To gain first-team experience, Agbaire joined Ayr United on loan in January 2025. He made his debut for the club in a league match against Dunfermline, contributing to a clean sheet in a 2–0 victory. [2] On 18 January 2025, Agbaire scored his first senior goal in an 8–0 victory over Broxburn Athletic in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup. [3] As of 21 March 2025, he has made eight league appearances for Ayr United.
Eligible to represent England, Nigeria, and Scotland, Agbaire chose to play for Scotland. He received his first call-up to the Scotland U21 squad in March 2025 and has since earned two caps.
Agbaire is known for his commanding presence in defense, attributed to his height and physicality. His ability to read the game, coupled with strong aerial skills, makes him a formidable centre-back. Additionally, he poses a threat during set-pieces, often venturing forward to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
