"Let You Down" is a song by South African rock band Seether. It is the first single from their seventh studio album Poison the Parish . It peaked at number one on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart in 2017.
The song was first revealed on February 23, 2017, the same day the band announced their seventh album – Poison the Parish . [1] A music video was released on the same day of the song's release, which features many ominous, masked and cloaked carnival-themed people roaming through an open field. [2] The footage cuts back and forth between the figures and the band performing in a dark, secluded cabin. [3]
The track was self-produced by band frontman and lead vocalist Shaun Morgan, and was meant to represent the band's return to a heavier rock sound found in their earlier albums. [4] Loudwire described the chorus as being "a little bit of an emotional reprieve" to the song's verses, calling it "sonically uplifting, but lyrically despondent." [2] A few publications noted a similarity in the guitar riff and chord progression of the song to Chevelle's 2014 single "Take Out the Gunman", Live's 1997 single "Lakini's Juice" and Tool's 1996 single "Stinkfist". Chevelle is an American rock band formed in Grayslake, Illinois, in 1995. The band was originally composed of two brothers, Pete Loeffler and Sam Loeffler, along with Matt Scott. Scott was replaced by Sam and Pete's brother, Joe Loeffler, in 1996. When Joe left the band in 2005, Geno Lenardo subbed in as the touring bassist until he was replaced by Pete and Sam's brother-in-law, Dean Bernardini. Bernardini departed from the band in 2019, and in 2021, Kemble Walters joined the band as a touring bassist.
Seether are a South African rock band founded in 1999 in Pretoria, Gauteng. The band originally performed under the name Saron Gas until 2002, when they moved to the United States and changed it to Seether to avoid confusion with the deadly chemical known as sarin gas. Lead vocalist and guitarist Shaun Morgan is the band's longest serving member, bassist Dale Stewart joined shortly after formation while drummer John Humphrey joined them for the band's second album. Since 2018, the band has been employing second guitarist Corey Lowery. Several notable guitarists like Corey's brother Clint and Troy McLawhorn have toured or recorded with the band, however, Shaun has recorded most guitar parts for the band's records.
