The Ming dynasty,officially the Great Ming,was an imperial dynasty of China,ruling from 1368 to 1644 following the collapse of the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty. The Ming dynasty was the last imperial dynasty of China ruled by the Han people,the majority ethnic group in China. Although the primary capital of Beijing fell in 1644 to a rebellion led by Li Zicheng,numerous rump regimes ruled by remnants of the Ming imperial family—collectively called the Southern Ming—survived until 1662.
The Hongwu Emperor,also known by his temple name as the Emperor Taizu of Ming,personal name Zhu Yuanzhang,courtesy name Guorui,was the founding emperor of the Ming dynasty,reigning from 1368 to 1398.

The changdao was a two-handed,single-edged Chinese sword. The term changdao has been translated as "long saber," "saber-staff," or "long-handled saber." During the Ming dynasty,changdao was often used as a general term for two handed swords. After Republican Era,the term miaodao is sometimes used to describe changdao due to similarity. Tang dynasty sources describe the changdao as being identical to the modao,but the modao may have been a double-edged weapon like earlier zhanmajian.

Xu Da (1332–1385),courtesy name Tiande,was a Chinese military general and official who lived in the late Yuan dynasty and early Ming dynasty. He was a friend of the Hongwu Emperor,the founder and first ruler of the Ming dynasty,and assisted him in overthrowing the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty and establishing the Ming dynasty. He was also the father of Empress Xu,who married the third Ming ruler,the Yongle Emperor,and maternal grandfather of the Hongxi Emperor. All but two subsequent Ming and Southern Ming emperors were descended from him.

To prove his worth to Wong Sau-ying,his ideal lover,he cross dresses as a beauty in a lantern festival so he can get closer to her. Sau-ying's older brother,Tiger Wong,sees Man-bun's beauty and kidnaps him home. A Bride for a Ride consists of elements of Cantonese opera. Chin Kar-lok,who stars as Tiger Wong,is also the drama's action choreographer.
The military of the Ming dynasty was the military apparatus of China from 1368 to 1644. It was founded in 1368 during the Red Turban Rebellion by Zhu Yuanzhang. The military was initially organised along largely hereditary lines and soldiers were meant to serve in self-sufficient agricultural communities. They were grouped into guards (wei) and battalions (suo),otherwise known as the wei-suo system. This hereditary guard battalion system went into decline around 1450 and was discarded in favor of mercenaries a century later.

First revealed during TVB's Sales Presentation 2009 in 2008,filming took place in late 2009 to early 2010,with the first episode airing both in Hong Kong and TVB's overseas affiliates and partners on 21 November 2011. On 27 December 2011,the show was blacklisted by the Chinese State Administration of Radio,Film,and Television,making it the first Hong Kong television drama to be censored in Mainland China in more than two decades.
