Lexington Assessment and Reception Center (LARC) is a maximum-security state prison for men located in Lexington, Cleveland County, Oklahoma, owned and operated by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. [1] The LARC complex also hosts the medium-security Lexington Correctional Center and the Rex Thompson Minimum Security Unit.

History

It was first opened in 1978 and has a capacity of 1450 inmates. In May 2015, state officials said LARC was operating at 112% of capacity, and that overcrowding and understaffing had created security issues. [2]

Five days out of the week, minimum security offenders work within the Prisoner Public Work Program or the City of Lexington, City of Noble, Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Oklahoma Correctional Industries, and the Oklahoma Military Department.

Medium security offenders can attend the Lexington Career Tech Skills Center on the grounds of the facility. Second Chance Sanctuary, an animal rescue, in conjunction with Friends of Folks, operate a program for long-term offenders to train dogs to be donated to nursing homes or for use as companion dogs. Graham Correctional Center is a Level 4 medium-security adult male state prison in Hillsboro, Illinois. The prison opened in 1980 with a capacity of 750 inmates. The current capacity of the prison is 974, though the average daily population is 1,906. The prison's warden is Glen Austin. Graham Correctional Center consists of 50 buildings located on 117 acres. It houses a residential sex offender program and substance abuse treatment as well as vocational and academic classes for prisoners. The facility also houses an Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) Reception and Classification Center.

The Oklahoma Department of Corrections is an agency of the state of Oklahoma. DOC is responsible for the administration of the state prison system. It has its headquarters in Oklahoma City, across the street from the headquarters of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. The Board of Corrections are appointees: five members are appointed by the Governor; two members are appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate; and two members are appointed by the Speaker of the house of Representatives. The board is responsible for setting the policies of the Department, approving the annual budget request, and working with the Director of Corrections on material matters of the agency. T. With an operating capacity of 740, it is the largest women's prison in the state and is surrounded by Washington State Route 16, and McCormick forest park. It opened 53 years ago in 1971, 82 years after statehood.

The Jackson Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Malone, Jackson County, Florida, owned and operated by the Florida Department of Corrections. This facility has a mix of security levels, including minimum, medium, and close, and houses adult male offenders. Jackson first opened in 1991 and has a maximum capacity of 1346 prisoners.

The South Florida Reception Center (SFRC) is a state prison for men located in Unincorporated Miami-Dade, Florida, Miami-Dade County, Florida, owned and operated by the Florida Department of Corrections.
