Liam Murray Davis (born 2 August 1984) is an Australian former professional cricketer who played for Western Australia in Australian domestic cricket. A former Australian under-19 representative, Davis made his debut for Western Australia in 2006. Generally playing as an opening batsman, he did not establish himself in the state team until late in the decade, having previously missed several matches due to injury. In February 2012, Davis scored a triple-century, 303 not out, against New South Wales, the second-highest score ever recorded for Western Australia at first-class level. He was also featured on the supplementary list of the Perth Scorchers for the 2012–13 season of the Big Bash League.

Domestic career

Born in Perth, Western Australia, and educated at Churchlands Senior High School, [2] Davis played under-17 and under-19 cricket for Western Australia, and also represented the Australian national under-19 team in five under-19 Tests and three under-19 One-Day Internationals. He scored a century on his under-19 Test debut in January 2003, 132 from 187 balls against England. [3] Davis made his List A debut for Western Australia in January 2006, replacing Adam Voges who was suspended, [4] and scored six runs batting third in the order, behind Justin Langer and Luke Ronchi. [5] He played for Weybridge in the Surrey Premier League during the 2006 English cricket season as an overseas player. [6]

Davis made his first-class debut for Western Australia against South Australia in November 2007, scoring eight and 42 runs in the first and second innings respectively. [7] In his second match, against New South Wales, he scored 116 runs in the first innings, his maiden first-class century. [8] He was seen by some as a replacement for the retiring Justin Langer. [9] His form in the 2007–08 season led to him being offered a place at the Centre of Excellence. [1] A rib injury during the 2009–10 season restricted Davis to four Sheffield Shield and three Ford Ranger Cup matches. [1] He returned in the 2010–11 season to score two centuries in the first two matches of the Ryobi One-Day Cup, [10] becoming the third Western Australia player, after Justin Langer and Luke Ronchi, to hit consecutive one-day centuries. [11]

In October 2011, Davis was named in the Australian squad for the Hong Kong Sixes, but was later forced to withdraw due to state commitments. [12] [13] In November 2011, he signed with the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League for the 2011–12 season, [14] however, he did not play any matches for the team due to injury. In a Sheffield Shield match against New South Wales in February 2012, Davis scored 303 not out, a triple-century and his highest score in any form of cricket. [15] He shared in a partnership of 389 runs with Adam Voges, the third-highest partnership for Western Australia. After this innings, he became the leading runscorer in the competition for the 2011–12 season. [16] Davis was selected to tour England with the Australia A team in July and August 2012. Having failed to gain a senior contract, he was included on the Perth Scorchers' supplementary list for the 2012–13 season. [17]

Western Australia cricket team

The Western Australian Men’s cricket team, formerly nicknamed the Western Warriors, represent the Australian state of Western Australia in Australian domestic cricket. The team is selected and supported by the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA), and plays its home games at the WACA Ground and Perth Stadium in Perth. The team mainly plays matches against other Australian states in the first-class Sheffield Shield competition and the limited-overs JLT One-Day Cup, but occasionally plays matches against touring international sides. Western Australia previously also fielded sides at Twenty20 level, but was replaced by the Perth Scorchers for the inaugural 2011–12 season of the Big Bash League. Western Australia's current captain is Mitchell Marsh, and the current coach is Adam Voges.

Adam Voges Australian cricketer

Adam Charles Voges is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer who played for the Australian national team at Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) level, and also captained Western Australia and Perth Scorchers in domestic cricket. Voges' Test match batting average of 61.87 is second behind Don Bradman among batsmen who have finished their career and played a minimum of 20 innings. Voges was included in the 2016 ICC Test Match Team of the Year.

The England cricket team tour of Australia included the 2006–07 Ashes series, a number of first-class matches against Australian Domestic teams, participation in the tri-nation One-day International series between Australia, New Zealand and England and a Twenty20 match against Australia on 9 January 2007.

Luke Ronchi New Zealand-Australian cricketer

Luke Ronchi is a New Zealand-Australian cricket coach and a former cricketer. He represented both the Australia national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team in international cricket. Ronchi is the only player to have played for both Australia and New Zealand in cricketing history and was part of the New Zealand World Cup side that finished runners-up in the 2015 Cricket World Cup, after their defeat in the final to Australia. He plays for Wellington in New Zealand domestic matches and has played Twenty20 matches for a range of sides. He retired from international cricket in June 2017.

Shaun Marsh Australian cricketer

Shaun Edward Marsh is a former Australian cricketer who plays for the Western Australia cricket team in Australian domestic cricket and has represented Australia in all three formats. Nicknamed SOS, he is a left-handed top-order batsman.

Lachlan McRae Stevens is a former player for the Queensland cricket team and former coach of Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers in Australian domestic cricket.

Craig Joseph Simmons is an Australian former professional cricketer. He played domestically for Western Australia, New South Wales, Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers. At grade cricket level, he plays for Rockingham-Mandurah in the WACA district competition, having previously played for Fremantle in WACA district matches and Gordon in Sydney Grade Cricket matches. A left-handed batsman, Simmons represented the Australian national under-19 side at the 2002 Under-19 World Cup, playing seven matches. At the tournament, he scored 155 runs from 115 balls against Kenya's under-19 team, contributing to Australia's total of 6/480 from 50 overs and eventual win by 430 runs.

Thomas Michael Beaton is an Australian cricketer who has played for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers domestically. A right-handed batsman, he also played with the Melbourne Renegades for the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons of the Big Bash League.

Marcus Sinclair Harris is an Australian cricketer who plays as an opening batsman for Victoria in domestic cricket. He made his Test cricket debut for the Australia national cricket team in December 2018.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers is an Australian domestic Twenty20 franchise cricket team representing Perth in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Nathan Mitchell Coulter-Nile is an Australian cricketer who has played at One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International level for the Australian national side. Domestically, he is contracted to Western Australia and the Melbourne Stars. From Perth, Western Australia, Coulter-Nile attended Aquinas College, and represented the state under-17 and under-19 teams, later going on to play three youth ODI matches for the Australian national under-19 team. Having held a rookie contract from the Western Australian Cricket Association (WACA) for several seasons, he made his debut at state level during the 2009–10 season, and has since become a regular selection in Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers' fast bowling attacks. Coulter-Nile made his Twenty20 International debut for the Australian national cricket team in February 2013, and his ODI debut in September 2013.

Jason Paul Behrendorff is an Australian cricketer, currently listed with Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers in Australian domestic cricket.

Cameron Timothy Bancroft is an Australian cricketer, currently contracted to Western Australia in Australian first class cricket, Durham in English first class cricket, and the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League. He made his Test debut for the Australian national team in November 2017.

2012–13 Big Bash League season

The 2012–13 Big Bash League season or BBL|02 was the second season of the Big Bash League, the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The tournament began on 7 December 2012, with the final being held on 19 January 2013.

William Giles Bosisto is an Australian cricketer who was contracted to South Australia at domestic level. Bosisto represented Western Australia at under-17 and under-19 level, and debuted for the state's under-23 side in the Futures League in November 2011, at the age of 18. At the 2011–12 Australian Under-19 Championships, he captained Western Australia, and was subsequently selected to captain the Australian under-19 cricket team at the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. At the competition's conclusion, Bosisto was named "Man of the Tournament", having led the overall batting averages with 276 runs from six matches.

Thomas Ian Francis Triffitt is an Australian cricketer who has played for Tasmania, Western Australia, Hobart Hurricanes and the Perth Scorchers. Triffitt attended the Australian Cricket Academy, and went on to play for the Australian under-19 cricket team, serving as the team's wicket-keeper at the 2010 Under-19 World Cup. He made his debut at state level during the 2010–11 season, and played regularly over the following seasons as a replacement for Tim Paine.

Sam McFarlane Whiteman is an English-born-Australian cricketer currently contracted to Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers. He has also played for Australia A. Whiteman is a wicket-keeper who bats left-handed.

Hilton William Raymond Cartwright is a Zimbabwean born Australian international cricketer who plays for Western Australia and the Melbourne Stars. He is a right-handed all-rounder. Cartwright made his Test debut for the Australian national team in January 2017, having earlier played for Australia A and the National Performance Squad. In January 2017 he won the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year prize awarded by Cricket Australia.

Ashton Agar Australian cricketer

Ashton Charles Agar is an Australian cricketer who plays all forms of the game at international level. Agar plays domestically for Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers. A left-handed spin bowler, he played two Test matches for the Australian national side during the 2013 Ashes series.
