Liam McCarthy is a South African-born Irish cricketer,currently playing for Munster Reds in domestic cricket. He plays club cricket for Railway Union where he is the club captain. [1]
Originally from Johannesburg,McCarthy came to Ireland in 2021 to play for Railway Union. He has Irish heritage through both his great-grandmother and great-grandfather. [2]
He was called up to the Munster Reds squad for an Interprovincial T20 round in Comber in September 2021. [2] He made his T20 debut on 17 September against Northern Knights. [3]
He would go on to make his List A debut for Munster on 5 May 2022 against the Knights. [4] He took 3 wickets in the 2022 List A season [5] and 2 in the T20 competition. [6]
McCarthy enjoyed a much improved 2023,finishing as the joint top wicket taker in the Interprovincial Cup with 15 dismissals. [7] He also took 6 wickets in T20s. [8] In a List A match against North West Warriors on 4 September he took his first career five-wicket haul,returning figures of 5/16. [9]
McCarthy received a call-up to the Emerging Ireland squad to tour the West Indies in November 2023. [10] He played two List A games on the tour before making his first-class debut against West Indies Academy on 2 December. [11]
In March 2024 he was named in the Ireland Wolves squad for their tour of Nepal. [12]
Timothy Grant Southee,is a New Zealand international cricketer who plays for New Zealand cricket team in all formats of the game,captain in Tests and vice captain in T20Is. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler and a hard-hitting lower order batsman. The third New Zealand bowler to take 300 Test wickets,he was one of the country's youngest cricketers,debuting at the age of 19 in February 2008. On his Test debut against England he took 5 wickets and made 77 off 40 balls in the second innings. He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs. Southee was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. Southee currently has the highest (international) test batting strike rate among the batsmen with a minimum of 2000 test runs. His (batting) career strike rate is 83.12.
