Lillian F. Mills is an American accountant and the first female dean of the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. [1] [2]

Mills completed bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting at the University of Florida in 1980 and 1981, respectively, [3] before moving to the University of Michigan to earn a doctorate in the subject, where she was advised by Joel Slemrod and published the dissertation Essays in Corporate Tax Compliance and Financial Reporting in 1996. [4] She was a research fellow at the United States Department of the Treasury and worked as a certified public accountant for two firms from 1981 to 1989 before joining the University of Arizona faculty in 1997. She taught at UArizona until 2005, and accepted a teaching position at the University of Texas at Austin the following academic year. [5]

At UTAustin, Mills held the Beverly H. and William P. O'Hara Chair in Business as well as the Lois and Richard Folger Dean's Leadership Chair. [6] She became interim dean of the McCombs School of Business in April 2020, upon Jay Hartzell's elevation to interim president of the University of Texas at Austin. [7] In June 2021, Mills was appointed to the deanship permanently, [8] and is the first woman to serve in that position. [9] Mill's lasting impact on the accounting profession will be "the influence she has had on generations of tax scholars." [10]

In addition to traditional classroom degree programs, McCombs is home to 14 collaborative research centers, the international business plan competition: Venture Labs Investment Competition, and executive education programs.

The University of Texas at Austin was originally conceived in 1827 under an article in the Constitución de Coahuila y Texas to open a public university in the state of Texas. The Constitution of 1876 also called for the creation of a "university of the first class." Thus, they created "The University of Texas." Since the school's opening in 1883, the University of Texas has expanded greatly with the Austin institution remaining the flagship university of the University of Texas System. By the late 1990s, the university had the largest enrollment in the country and contained many of the country's top programs in the areas of law, architecture, film, engineering, and business.

Alison Davis-Blake is an American academic administrator. She served as the eighth president of Bentley University. Before Bentley, she served as dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and of the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. At Ross, Davis-Blake was the school’s first female dean, and at the time of her appointment she was the highest-ranking female dean at any U.S. business school.

Claiborne "Clay" Johnston was named as the medical school's inaugural dean in January 2014. On September 1, 2021, Johnston stepped down from his position and George Macones was named interim dean. Claudia Lucchinetti,M.D. was announced as the new dean and began her term on December 1, 2022.

Dell Medical School opened in 2016 with Johnston being named as the inaugural dean in January 2014 In July 2021, Johnston announced that he would step down as the dean of the Dell Medical School. He officially left his position on August 31, 2021.
