Lina Allemano (born October 20, 1973) [1] is a Canadian musician in the genre of jazz and free improvisation. [2]
Allemano grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. [3] Her mother was a literature scholar and writer, and her father is a musician and French teacher.
At ten years old, she began to play her brother's old trumpet. [4] Her father familiarized her with jazz, and at the age of 12, she began to take classical lessons. Her first club concert was at the age of 15. For her education, she moved from Edmonton to Toronto in 1993, where she now resides.
She began performing with Howard Johnson, Don Byron, Dave Holland, Mike Murley, and Joe Lovano.[ citation needed ] She was invited to the Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City by Dave Douglas, where she appeared on the scene with Ingrid Jensen and drew the attention of Down Beat.[ citation needed ] In 2012, she toured Europe with the group, and in 2014, she appeared in Europe with Achim Kaufmann and Christian Weber.[ citation needed ]
Allemano's quartet Lina Allemano Four performs free jazz and has released six albums. [5]
She composes pieces described as both "[complex] and [having a sense of] anarchic freedom." [6] She also leads the improvisation ensemble Titanium Riot with members including Ryan Driver (analog synthesizer), Rob Clutton (bass guitar), and Nick Fraser (percussion). She has performed with the Paul Read Orchestra, Tim Posgate Horn Band, Cluttertones, the Jane Fair/Rosemary Galloway quintet, the Neufeld-Occhipienti Jazz Orchestra, and has performed as a sidewoman for groups with Marianne Trudel, Achilla Orru, Rob Clutton, Victor Bateman and Tania Gill. Additionally, she has appeared on more than 40 albums.[ citation needed ]

Arthur Stewart Farmer was an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player. He also played flumpet, a trumpet–flugelhorn combination especially designed for him. He and his identical twin brother, double bassist Addison Farmer, started playing professionally while at high school in Los Angeles. Art gained greater attention after the release of a recording of his composition "Farmer's Market" in 1952. He subsequently moved from Los Angeles to New York, where he performed and recorded with musicians such as Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins, and Gigi Gryce and became known principally as a bebop player.
Dave Douglas is an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator. His career includes more than fifty recordings as a leader and more than 500 published compositions. His ensembles include the Dave Douglas Quintet; Sound Prints, a quintet co-led with saxophonist Joe Lovano; Uplift, a sextet with bassist Bill Laswell; Present Joys with pianist Uri Caine and Andrew Cyrille; High Risk, an electronic ensemble with Shigeto, Jonathan Aaron, and Ian Chang; and Engage, a sextet with Jeff Parker, Tomeka Reid, Anna Webber, Nick Dunston, and Kate Gentile.
Samuel Carthorne Rivers was an American jazz musician and composer. Though most famously a tenor saxophonist, he also performed on soprano saxophone, bass clarinet, flute, harmonica, piano and viola.
Tom Harrell is an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist, composer, and arranger. Sonny Rollins Plus 4 is a jazz album by Sonny Rollins, released in 1956 on Prestige Records. On this album Rollins plays with the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet. The album was the last recording including pianist Richie Powell and Brown, as both died in a car accident three months later.
Blue Rose is the debut studio album by Rosemary Clooney, in collaboration with Duke Ellington and his orchestra, released in mono on Columbia Records, catalogue CL 872. Although she had appeared on albums before, it had been in the context of either a musical theater or multiple artist recording. The album also marked the return of Ellington to Columbia after an absence of four years, and was one of the first examples of overdubbing being used as an integral part of the creation, rather than for effects or to correct mistakes.
