Lincoln American University, School of Medicine, also known as LAU, is a for-profit private medical university based in Guyana, Caribbean. [1] [2] [3] LAU is registered with the National Accreditation Council of Guyana. [4] It has undergraduate and postgraduate courses in medicine.

Medical Programs & Degrees

5-Year MD Program [1] [13] [14]

LAU offers MD (Doctor of Medicine) Program which is based on US medical curriculum. [15] Curriculum duration of the program is 5 years. [16] English [17] is used as the language of instruction.

Entire MD program is bifurcated into three sections or sub-programs:

I Pre Medical Sciences or Basic Foundation for Medical Sciences Program [18]

This program starts at the undergraduate level & span over a duration of 1 year. Pre Medical Sciences forms the foundation for the MD Program & prepare the medical students to understand the next level of Basic Sciences & Pre Clinical Program.

II Basic Sciences & Pre Clinical Program [13]

Basic Sciences is the second stage in the MD program and take 2 years to complete. During this program, students learn basic medical sciences, physical examination & diagnosis skills, principles of diseases, therapy and legal issues related to medical practice. This program prepares students for the Clinical Rotations Program.

III Clinical Rotations Program [13]

Clinical Rotations Program or Clinical Sciences Program is the last stage in the MD Program span over a period of last 2 years of the MD program. During this program, students visit clinics & hospitals, deal with patients under guidance & learn how to record medical history or case history, perform a physical examination, and interpret findings.

Clinical Rotations Program provides students to imbibe the clinical aspects of medicine and get hands-on experience in clinical practice.

Lincoln American University students can opt for clinical rotations in the affiliated hospitals of Guyana and USA. [14]

John F. Kennedy University was a nonprofit, private university in Pleasant Hill, San Jose, Natick, and Willemstad, Curacao. The university was founded in 1965 to offer degrees and certificates for non-traditional higher education students, taught mostly by adjunct faculty. In April 2009, the university became an affiliate of the National University System initially as an independent university. The institution closed in 2020 with programs transferred to other National University schools.

Medical University of the Americas – Nevis

Medical University of the Americas (MUA) is a for-profit medical school in Saint James Windward Parish, Saint Kitts and Nevis. MUA confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Students at MUA are primarily from the US and Canada and return to those countries to practice medicine. A typical incoming class at MUA is about 80–90 students. MUA also offers a one-semester, Gateway Medical,pre-medical program for students who need to meet additional course requirements to be considered for the M.D. program.

American University of the Caribbean

The American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) is an international, for-profit, U.S. curriculum-based medical school with a main basic science campus in Sint Maarten. The school is owned by Adtalem Global Education, formerly DeVry Inc. since 2011, AUC is accredited by Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine, which accredits Caribbean medical schools. AUC is currently recognised by the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom, meaning graduates post September 2019 are eligible for practice there. AUC is included in the list of approved schools recognized by the Medical Board of California, a list that is frequently used throughout the United States by ACGME-accredited residency programs to validate international medical school credentials for postgraduate training.

University of Medicine and Health Sciences

The University of Medicine and Health Sciences is a private, for-profit medical school located in Basseterre, Saint Kitts in the Caribbean. UMHS confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. The university also has a 5th semester campus in Portland, Maine and an administrative office in New York, New York.

Saint James School of Medicine (SJSM) is a private, international medical school with two basic science campuses, one in British Overseas Territory of Anguilla, and the other in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, it is considered one school with two campuses. Washington University of Barbados

The Washington University of Barbados (WUB) was established in 2016 and was granted charter from the Ministry of Education of Barbados during the same year. The university claimed to be devoted to preparing and educating students from across the globe to become professional doctors, but has been named as part of an international medical school scam. Both Dr. Rap and Mr. Dalchand have been arrested and charged before the Magistrates Court at District C in Barbados. Both are charged that they defrauded Casa Grande Hotel in St Philip; Furniture Ltd and Builders Mart. These are all businesses owned Mrs Ram Merchandani the owner of Casa Grande Hotel; the campus of the University. The charges arose when cheques tendered for services by these companies were dishonoured by the bank. The sums of monies are in excess of $300000.00 BDS. Both men are remanded in prison in Barbados awaiting hearing. They are set to reappear on Monday 22 September 2018.

The Bridgetown International University (BIU), established in 2017, is a medical school that has its campus in Bridgetown, Barbados, Caribbean Region, North America. Bridgetown International University provides education in the sector of Medicine & offers the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program with a duration of 5 1/2 years to students from all around the world including students from India & neighboring countries, and African countries, among others, who have completed 12th Grade in school.

Victoria University of Barbados is a medical university in Bridgetown, Barbados. Established in 2017, Victoria University of Barbados admits suitable students for their MD Program thrice in a year during January, May, and September.

All Saints University College of Medicine, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a private medical school located in the Caribbean.. There are two campuses in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, one in Kingstown and the other in Arnos Vale, along with its administrative base in Toronto, Ontario.
