Lindsay Fitz-Patrick Grant (born 1 November 1964) is a Saint Kitts and Nevis politician and lawyer. He served as Leader of the People's Action Movement until his resignation in July 2012. [1]
In the 2004 elections,Grant ran as a candidate for the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Constituency #4,where he faced off against Rupert Hubert of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party,and lost to him by 51 votes amidst allegations of irregularities on the voter rolls. In the 2010 elections,Grant faced off against Glenn Phillip in the same constituency,and again lost by 29 votes. [2] He filed an election petition in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court to challenge the results of that election;the matter came before Judge Indra Hariprashad-Charles,who ruled against Grant in November 2010. [3] He resigned from his position as Leader of the People's Action Movement in July 2012. [1]
In July 2013,Grant led a protest march through the streets of Basseterre and was arrested after an argument with police officers enforcing the government decision to refuse them permission to march past Government Headquarters in Church Street. [4] Grant was held for four hours and charged with obstruction,while hundreds of supporters surrounded the police station and chanted slogans calling for his release. Grant was set free on bail. In 2010 Lindsay Grant was involved in a bribery scandal. [7] [8] A video appeared in which Grant agreed to accept 1.7 million USD for party campaign financing in return for selling land to a supposed investor below market value. [9]
Grant is a senior partner of the Basseterre law firm Grant Powell &Co.,where his areas of practice include immigration law,citizenship law,trust law,and insurance law. He graduated from the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica and Harvard Law School in the United States. [10] He renounced United States citizenship in 2009 during the debate on the National Assembly Elections (Amendment) Bill,which barred dual citizens from standing for election. [11]
Saint Kitts and Nevis,officially the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis,is an island country consisting of the two islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis,both located in the West Indies,in the Leeward Islands chain of the Lesser Antilles. The People's Action Movement (PAM) is a political party in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The party currently holds one of the 11 seats in the National Assembly. PAM operates only in Saint Kitts and for the 2022 general election is in a 'One Movement' alliance with the Concerned Citizens' Movement (CCM) operating in Nevis,following the breakdown of the governing Team Unity alliance. PAM is a member of the Caribbean Democrat Union,the regional affiliate of the International Democrat Union and shares close links with other centre-right party members in the Caribbean such as the Jamaica Labour Party.
The monarchy of Saint Kitts and Nevis is a system of government in which a hereditary monarch is the sovereign and head of state of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The current monarch of Saint Kitts and Nevis,since 8 September 2022,is King Charles III. As sovereign,he is the personal embodiment of the Crown of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Although the person of the sovereign is equally shared with 14 other independent countries within the Commonwealth of Nations,each country's monarchy is separate and legally distinct. As a result,the current monarch is officially titled King of Saint Christopher and Nevis and,in this capacity,he and other members of the royal family undertake public and private functions domestically and abroad as representatives of Saint Kitts and Nevis. However,the King is the only member of the royal family with any constitutional role.
The Saint Kitts and Nevis passport is issued to citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis for international travel. Prior to 1983,Saint Kitts and Nevis,together with Anguilla,was an associated state of the United Kingdom. The passport is a Caricom passport as Saint Kitts and Nevis is a member of the Caribbean Community. As of 29 July 2023,citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis had visa-free or visa on arrival access to 154 countries and territories.
General elections were held in Saint Kitts and Nevis on 25 January 2010 for eleven of the fourteen or fifteen seats in the National Assembly. The other three or four members of the National Assembly will be appointed by the Governor-General after the elections.

The Saint Kitts and Nevis Rugby Association is the rugby governing body in Saint Kitts and Nevis. Based in Basseterre,it was founded in 2008. The association became affiliated to the North America Caribbean Rugby Association in the following year,but it is not currently a member of World Rugby.
Mary Charles George O.B.E. was a Kittitian educator. She taught school in St. Kitts for 43 years before moving to the Virgin Islands,where she taught for another decade. She was the first woman in St. Kitts and Nevis to run for public office. For her contributions to education in the Caribbean,she was honoured with the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II and granted a life membership in the Caribbean Union of Teachers. A hospital in Molyneux,Saint Kitts,and the teaching excellence award of the St. Kitts Teachers’Union are named in her honour.
Sir Probyn Ellsworth Inniss MBE was the Governor of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla from 1975 to 1980,and then,following the separation of Anguilla,the Governor of Saint Christopher and Nevis from 1980 to 1981.
Anne Liburd also known as Ann Liburd was a Kittitian women’s rights activist and community organizer. She served as president of the National Council of Women in St. Kitts and was the first and then three-time president of the Caribbean Women’s Association. She headed several programs to develop women's entrepreneurial skills and then served as the first president of the Federation of Labour Women,a political affiliation of the Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party to help women gain leadership and communication skills.
Dame Marcella Althea Liburd is a Kittitian politician who is the fifth governor-general of Saint Kitts and Nevis,serving since 2023. Trained as a teacher and then as a barrister and solicitor,Liburd was the first woman to serve as both the Speaker of the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Governor-General,as well as the first Governor-General appointed by Charles III. She has served in various Ministerial positions including Acting Prime Minister and Chair of the Opposition for the Labour Party. She was the first woman to serve as Chair in the 81-year-old organization’s history.
The primary law governing Saint Kitts and Nevis nationality regulations is the Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship Act,which came into force on 28 February 1984.
Snap general elections were held in Saint Kitts and Nevis on 5 August 2022,following the decision of incumbent prime minister Timothy Harris to dissolve the parliament on 11 May. Snap elections are constitutionally required within ninety days following the dissolution of parliament.
