Lionel Rivera (born 1956) is an American politician who served as the mayor of Colorado Springs,Colorado from 2003 to 2011. Elected in April 2003 and re-elected in 2007 on a mail ballot only election,he is the first Hispanic Mayor in the city's history.
Born in Honolulu,HI,Rivera earned a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology from Texas Tech University and a Master of Business Administration from Jacksonville State University.
Rivera came to Colorado Springs in 1984 as an Army Captain stationed at Fort Carson. He has served on many community boards including being a founder and past president of the Colorado Springs Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,serving on the Colorado Springs Greater Chamber of Commerce Board and United Way Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and a co-chair of The Springs Community Action Plan. Rivera was first elected to an at large City Council seat in April 1997 and re-elected again in April 1999. In April 2001,he was elected by his City Council colleagues to serve as Vice Mayor for a two-year term.
He ran for U.S. Congress in Colorado's 5th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives but lost in the Republican primary to Doug Lamborn,on August 8,2006.
He was succeeded by Colorado Springs mayor Steve Bach on May 17,2011. He did not run for re-election due to term limits.

Henry Gabriel Cisneros is an American politician and businessman. He served as the mayor of San Antonio,Texas,from 1981 to 1989,the second Latino mayor of a major American city and the city's first since 1842. A Democrat,Cisneros served as the 10th Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in the administration of President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 1997. As HUD Secretary,Cisneros was credited with initiating the revitalization of many public housing developments and with formulating policies that contributed to achieving the nation's highest ever rate of home ownership. In his role as the President's chief representative to the cities,Cisneros personally worked in more than two hundred cities spread over all fifty states. Cisneros's decision to leave the HUD position and not serve a second term was overshadowed by controversy involving payments to his former mistress.

He was a member of the Democratic party He had been a member from May 23,2003,and his current term was to expire December 31,2023. He is the recipient of several local and regional awards. In 2000,he was appointed by then-Governor Bill Owens for a term with the Caring for Colorado Foundation,expiring May 2003. Ray Aguilera was a commissioner representing Colorado for the Education Commission of the States. He frequently also wrote editorials for the Denver Post.

The 2023 Denver mayoral election was held on April 4,2023 to elect the mayor of Denver,Colorado,with a runoff held on June 6. The election was officially nonpartisan and was held concurrently with elections for the Denver City Council,as well as city auditor and city clerk and recorder. Incumbent Democratic mayor Michael Hancock was term-limited and could not seek a fourth term in office. A historic field of seventeen candidates filed to run in the race to succeed Hancock.
