Ackley Bridge is a British drama television series that focuses on the lives of the staff and pupils at the fictional West Yorkshire secondary academy, Ackley Bridge College, in the fictitious mill town of Ackley Bridge. [1] The first series consisted of six episodes and aired from 7 June to 12 July 2017. [2] The second series consisted of twelve episodes and aired from 5 June to 21 August 2018. [3] [4] [5] A third series consisting of eight episodes aired from 18 June 2019 to 6 August 2019. [6]

Contents

In December 2019, Ackley Bridge was renewed for a fourth series, consisting of ten 30-minute episodes. [7] The fourth series was originally set to air in September 2020, [7] but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, filming was postponed. [8] Production resumed in September 2020, and it was announced that the series would return to transmission in April 2021. [9] In June 2021, it was announced that production on the fifth series of Ackley Bridge had commenced. [10] [11] The series premiered on All 4 in July 2022. [12] In October 2022, Channel 4 announced that they had decided not to renew Ackley Bridge following the fifth series. [13]

Amy-Leigh Hickman is an English actress. Hickman made her television debut as Carmen Howle in the CBBC series Tracy Beaker Returns, a role she reprised in the sequel series The Dumping Ground. She then went onto appear as Linzi Bragg in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, before being cast as Nasreen Paracha in the Channel 4 drama Ackley Bridge, a role for which she won the Actor award for at the RTS Yorkshire Awards. Samuel Bottomley is an English actor. He began acting at the age of nine, when he made his professional debut in the 2011 film Tyrannosaur. After portraying the role of Brandon Kelleher on the CBBC series Rocket's Island, Bottomley went on to appear as Jordan Wilson on the Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge, followed by roles on Kiss Me First and Ladhood. He then played Dean Paxton in the 2021 film adaptation of Everybody's Talking About Jamie, after which he was cast in television series including The Teacher and Somewhere Boy.

Carla Woodcock is an English actress. Woodcock made her acting debut as Susie Garrett on the Netflix series Free Rein, a role she played from 2017 to 2019. The series follows the lives of the staff and pupils at the fictional multi-cultural academy school Ackley Bridge College, in the fictitious Yorkshire mill town of Ackley Bridge. When the commissioning of the series was announced, it was announced that Ackley Bridge would face an overhaul, including cast changes, a shortened runtime and a revised timeslot. The series consists of ten thirty-minute episodes, whereas episodes in the previous three series were double the duration. Unlike the first three series, the timeslot was moved to 6pm to appeal to a younger audience. Following the premiere of the first episode on 19 April, the series was made available to stream as a boxset on All 4.

Mandy Carter (<i>Ackley Bridge</i>) Fictional character from Ackley Bridge

Mandy Carter is a fictional character from the Channel 4 school drama Ackley Bridge, portrayed by Jo Joyner. Mandy first appeared in the pilot episode of the series, first broadcast on 7 June 2017. Mandy was initially introduced as the headteacher of the fictional Ackley Bridge school, and her storylines in the series have included the breakdown of her marriage to Steve Bell, trying to help her mother escape from an abusive marriage to her father, trying to save her school and becoming pregnant.

The fifth and final series of the British television drama series Ackley Bridge premiered on All 4 on 11 July 2022. It was later broadcast on Channel 4. The series follows the lives of the staff and pupils at the fictional multi-cultural academy school Ackley Bridge College, in the fictitious Yorkshire mill town of Ackley Bridge. The commissioning of the series was confirmed in June 2021 and filming commenced in November of that year. The series consists of ten thirty-minute episodes that were transmitted in the revised timeslot of 10pm on Channel 4.
