The CMLL World Heavyweight Championship (Campeonato Mundial Completo de CMLL in Spanish) is a singles professional wrestling championship promoted by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). The Championship has been in existence since 1991. [G] Unlike other heavyweight titles such as the WWE Championship or the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, it is not the main championship in the promotion because CMLL has emphasized the lower weight levels since there are more workers in the lower levels. The title was the first to be created after Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre changed its name to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre in the early 1990s.

Contents

As it is a professional wrestling championship, it is not won legitimately; it is instead won via a scripted ending to a match or awarded to a wrestler because of a storyline. [1] As the championship is designated as a heavyweight title, it can only officially be competed for by wrestlers weighing at least 105 kg (231 lb). The rule is not strictly adhered to as several champions have been under the weight limit, including the 16th champion, Héctor Garza who weighed 95 kg (209 lb). [2] All title matches take place under two-out-of-three falls rules.

The first champion was Konnan El Barbaro, who won a 16-man tournament in 1991. [G] The current champion is Gran Guerrero, who is in his first reign. He defeated Hechicero on November 7, 2022. The championship has been vacated three times; all instances were when the champion left CMLL for another promotion. Universo 2000 holds the record for most reigns, with three.

The AAA World Tag Team Championship is the main tag team title contested for in the Mexican lucha libre promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA). In 1993 AAA created the first version of the AAA World Tag team championship, technically the AAA/IWC World Tag Team titles. The belts used for the AAA/IWC titles were the old NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championship belts. The original version was abandoned upon Art Barr's death in 1994. José Luis Amezcua Muñoz is a Mexican professional wrestler, trainer and promoter, best known by his ring name Apolo Dantés. He is the son of Alfonso Dantés, a successful and respected professional wrestler during the 1960s and 1970s. He was a longtime mainstay of Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) throughout the 1990s and now owns and operates "Dantés Lucha Factory" in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Antonio Gómez Medina is a Mexican professional wrestler, or Luchador as they are called in Spanish, and professional wrestling trainer based out of Arena Coliseo Guadalajara in Guadalajara. Gómez is best known under the ring name Máscara Mágica; he is the second person to use the "Máscara Mágica" name, taking it over after Eddie Guerrero abandoned the name in the early 1990s. As Máscara Mágica, he was part of the Los Nuevo Infernales group; as part of a Los Nuevo Inferales vs. Los Infernales storyline, and lost his mask as a result of a Luchas de Apuestas match loss to Los Infernales leader El Satánico. In recent years Gómez has focused more on his training position at Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, where he also works as a booker and part-time wrestler.

Omar Alvarado García, better known by his ring name Stuka Jr., is a Mexican luchador, who works for the Mexican professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where he is a member of the Los Guerreros Laguneros stable. Stuka Jr. is not, despite what the name indicates, the son of luchador Stuka, but is actually Stuka's younger brother.

Astral is a Mexican luchador enmascarado, or masked professional wrestler, for best known for his time working for the Mexico City-based professional wrestling promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Initially he worked in CMLL's Mini-Estrella division, but in January 2017 it was announced that he was being moved into the "regular" division. Astral's real name is not a matter of public record, as is often the case with masked wrestlers in Mexico where their private lives are kept a secret from the wrestling fans. Astral is one of a limited number of Mini-Estrellas whose ring character is not based on the character of a wrestler from the regular division. He is a former CMLL World Mini-Estrella Champion.

The CMLL Universal Championship (2017) was a professional wrestling tournament produced and scripted by Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. The tournament started on June 30, 2017 and ran for three Super Viernes shows with the finals taking place on July 14, 2017 at Arena México in Mexico City, Mexico. The CMLL Universal Championship is an annual tournament exclusively for wrestlers who hold a CMLL-recognized championship at the time of the tournament. The tournament was first held in 2009, making the 2017 version the ninth overall tournament. Being a professional wrestling tournament, it is not won legitimately; it is instead won via predetermined outcomes to the matches that is kept secret from the general public.
