The Caracas Metro (referred as El Metro by locals) is a rapid transit system operating in Caracas, capital of Venezuela. As of 2015, including Los Teques Metro, the Caracas Metro is made up of 52 stations. [1]

Line 1 of the Caracas Metro currently serves 22 stations, and has a route length of 20.4 kilometres (12.7 mi). [2] Its initial section opened in 1983 as the city's first rapid transit line. [2] It was extended thrice during the 1980s, reaching Palo Verde, current eastern terminus, in 1989.

Line 3 of the Caracas Metro currently serves 8 stations besides the interchange to Line 1, Plaza Venezuela, and has a route length of 10.4 kilometres (6.5 mi). [2] It started revenue service between Plaza Venezuela and El Valle in 1994; [2] it was later extended to La Rinconada in 2006, but this section did not become fully operational until 2010, with the opening of the three intermediate stations. [4]

Construction works for next phase were initiated 18 March 2007 and expected to be completed by year-end 2011. Line 4 was operates on much of the same route that Line 2 does.

The Caracas Metro is a mass rapid transit system serving Caracas, Venezuela. It was constructed and is operated by Compañía Anónima Metro de Caracas, a government-owned company that was founded in 1977 by José González-Lander who headed the project for more than thirty years since the early planning stages in the 1960s. Its motto is "Somos parte de tu vida". In 1978 MTA – New York City Transit's R46 #816 was shipped from the Pullman Standard's plant as a sample of rolling stock to be used for the new metro system that was under construction at the time.

It has its own Metro Station, many hotels and restaurants, and it is an important business and residential center of the city. It is also an important tourist destination and cultural center in Caracas. The Francisco de Miranda avenue and the Distibuidor Altamira are both located in Altamira. This neighborhood borders El Ávila National Park to the north, La Castellana neighborhood to the west, Los Palos Grandes to the east, and Bello Campo neighborhood to the south. It has an estimated area of 161 hectares or approximately 1.61 square kilometers.
