Charlotte FC is an American soccer club founded in 2019, after the city of Charlotte was awarded a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise. Charlotte FC began playing competitive soccer in the 2022 season. It plays its home games at Bank of America Stadium, competing in the Eastern Conference of MLS.

MLS regulations permit teams to name eight players from outside of the United States in their rosters. However, this limit can be exceeded by trading international slots with another MLS team, or if one or more of the overseas players is a refugee or has permanent residency rights in the USA.

The History of Major League Soccer began in 1988, when the United States Soccer Federation pledged to create a Division 1 professional soccer league as a condition to FIFA awarding the 1994 FIFA World Cup to the United States. Major League Soccer was officially formed in 1995. The league began play in 1996 with 10 teams, and in 1998 grew to 12 teams. MLS has rebounded since then, with increased attendance and the development of soccer-specific stadiums. MLS currently has 29 teams, with further expansion to 30 teams planned with the addition of San Diego FC in 2025. The 2022 Charlotte FC season was the club's first season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States. The team was coached by Miguel Ángel Ramírez until he was fired on May 31. Assistant coach Christian Lattanzio was promoted to interim head coach.

The 2022 Inter Miami CF season was the third season in the history of Inter Miami and the 19th season of first-division club soccer in South Florida. In addition to playing in Major League Soccer, the club participated in the U.S. Open Cup, the first cup competition in club history.
