William Joscelyn Arkell MA, D Phil, D Sc, FGS, FRS was a British geologist and palaeontologist, regarded as the leading authority on the Jurassic Period during the middle part of the 20th century.

Clement Richard Attlee, 1st Earl Attlee,, was a British Labour Party politician who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951.

William Sawney Bisat, FRS (1886-1973) was a civil engineer in the north of England whose principal recreation was geological research. He is remembered for his work on goniatites which contributed to the refinement of the stratigraphy of the Carboniferous period, not least in northern England.

The Biographical Memoirs of Fellows of the Royal Society is an academic journal on the history of science published annually by the Royal Society. It publishes obituaries of Fellows of the Royal Society. It was established in 1932 as Obituary Notices of Fellows of the Royal Society and obtained its current title in 1955, with volume numbering restarting at 1. Prior to 1932, obituaries were published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society.
