Law & Order: UK is a British police procedural and legal television programme, adapted from the American series Law & Order . The programme is financed by the production companies Kudos Film and Television, Wolf Films, and Universal Media Studios. [1] Chris Chibnall, the first head writer, set the practice of adapting episodes from the American series, which continued after he left the production. Through the eight series, 53 episodes have been borrowed from across the 456 episode American run, ranging from the first American episode being used in series 5 of Law & Order: UK, through a final (20th) season American episode used in series 6 of the UK version.
Law & Order: UK is based in London. The original cast consisted of Bradley Walsh, Freema Agyeman, Ben Daniels, Jamie Bamber, Bill Paterson, and Harriet Walter, whilst the final cast featured Walsh, Sharon Small, Ben Bailey Smith, Dominic Rowan, Georgia Taylor, and Peter Davison. Paul Nicholls and Paterson Joseph also starred.
The series premiered worldwide on ITV on Thursday 23 February 2009. As of 11 June 2014, a total of 53 episodes have been shown globally. Internationally, the programme is broadcast in thirteen-episode runs, however, in Britain, each thirteen-episode run is broadcast in two halves - one containing seven episodes, and the other containing the remaining six. This results in several episodes being broadcast in foreign countries months before their British broadcast. [2] [3] The series premiered in America on BBC America on 3 October 2010. [4] [5]
In June 2014, broadcaster ITV and producer Kudos issued a joint press release announcing that series 8 would be "the last to be transmitted for the foreseeable future". [6] By coincidence, the final episode aired the following week, delayed from its planned 30 April airdate due to a plot which incorporated events considered too similar to 28 April murder of teacher Ann Maguire. Britain's Got Talent is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. Presented by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, it is produced by both Thames and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year in late Spring to early Summer. The show was originally intended for production in 2005, but filming was suspended in the wake of a dispute between ITV and the programme's originally planned host. The X Factor is a British reality television music competition, created by Simon Cowell. The programme ran for around 445 episodes across fifteen series, each one primarily broadcast late in the year, until its final episode in December 2018. Moving Wallpaper is a British satirical comedy-drama television series set in a TV production unit. It ran on ITV for two series in 2008–09. The subject of the first series was the production of a soap called Echo Beach, each episode of which aired directly after the Moving Wallpaper episode about its production. The second series shifted to the production of a "zombie show" called Renaissance. Ben Miller confirmed in May 2009 on his Twitter account that no further series would be made.

The second series of British talent competition programme Britain's Got Talent was broadcast on ITV, from 12 April to 31 May 2008. Following the success of its first series, ITV commissioned the programme for additional episodes, with more venues used for auditions than in the previous series, and the number of semi-finalists, semi-final rounds, and finalists increased by production staff. Both the judges from the first series – Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan – and Ant & Dec returned to co-host the second series, along with Stephen Mulhern returning to front the second series of Britain's Got More Talent on ITV2.

The fourth series of British talent competition programme Britain's Got Talent was broadcast on ITV, from 17 April to 5 June 2010; due to live coverage of the 2010 UEFA Champions League Final on 22 May, the sixth audition episode of the series was pushed back a day to avoid clashing with it. Production on the fourth series during the filmed auditions required Louis Walsh to step in as a guest judge, after Simon Cowell became ill and unable to partake in certain sessions.
The Chase is a British television quiz show broadcast on ITV and hosted by Bradley Walsh. Contestants play against a professional quizzer, known as the "chaser", who attempts to prevent them from winning a cash prize.
On 28 June 2013, Bradley Walsh stated on This Morning that Law & Order: UK would return with an eighth series, commissioned to start filming in October 2013. In September 2013, broadcaster ITV confirmed that Law & Order: UK would return in 2014 with an eight episode series, and that Ben Bailey Smith had been cast as DS Joe Hawkins, replacing Paul Nicholls as DS Sam Casey.
