For basketball players in the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing 500 consecutive regular season games is considered a highly significant achievement. This is often referred to as an "iron man streak".
As of the completion of the 2023–24 NBA season – the 78th regular season of play of the NBA – around 20 players had played at least 500 consecutive regular season games in their NBA career, making it one of the most exclusive 500-clubs in the NBA.
The all-time leader of consecutive games is A.C. Green, who played in 1192 consecutive games during his career. [1] Mikal Bridges is the current active leader, having played exactly 500 games consecutively (as of December 16th, 2024). [2]
Several streaks ended for reasons other than player injury. Could be contract disputes, DNP-CD, suspensions, and other happenings that forced a player to miss a game.
As of the start of the 2024–25 season, there is only one player with active 500 consecutive game streaks: Mikal Bridges, with the closest runner-up, Harrison Barnes, a distant follower with only about 250 straight games played, and no other players coming close to either of them.
This is a list of the NBA players who have played at least 500 consecutive regular season games in their NBA career, updated through games played on December 16th, 2024. *If ABA games are also counted, Ron Boone should have 1041 consecutive games played - although only 379 of those came while he was in the NBA.

Rank | Name | Games | Start | End | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | A.C. Green | 1,192 | 11-19-1986 | 04-18-2001 | Last game missed was when he was a DNP-CD in his sophomore season. He never missed a game due to injury. |
2 | Randy Smith | 906 | 02-18-1972 | 03-13-1983 | Missed 6 games in his rookie season for undisclosed reasons (most likely DNP-CD's as they were spread out on random days not connected), with the last one being on February 15th, 1972. In the 1983-84 season, he missed a game while waiting to clear waivers, technically stopping his streak. He then retired following the season. If it had been allowed to continue, he would have had 921 games by the end. |
3 | Johnny "Red" Kerr | 844 (C) | 10-31-1954 | 11-05-1965 | First game he ever missed in his entire career was a deliberate DNP-CD by the Baltimore Bullets' first-year coach Paul Seymour, allegedly to "take off the stress" from Kerr, just 10 games into what would become his final season. A game the Bullets coincidentally lost regardless of Kerr's benching, after which Kerr's wife, Betsy, wanted to punch Seymour in the nose. [3] |

The 2001–02 NBA season was the Wizards' 41st season in the National Basketball Association. This season is most memorable for the return of All-Star guard, and six-time champion Michael Jordan, who came out of his second retirement to play for the Wizards at age 38. After finishing 19–63 the previous season, the Wizards won the draft lottery, and selected high school basketball star Kwame Brown with the first overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft.

He played college basketball for the University of Florida and was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 38th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft. They finished the regular season with 19 wins and 63 losses, the team's worst record since 2002–03. This was also their first season without LeBron James, who was not on the roster as he left the team in the offseason to join the Miami Heat.

As both the three-time defending Western Conference Champions and the two-time defending NBA Champions, the Lakers attempted their third "three-peat" in franchise history (1952–54) and (2000–02), but were swept by the eventual champion Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Semi-finals. The Lakers marked the end of an era for head coach Phil Jackson, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in March 2011. He proceeded to announce his retirement as head coach after the playoffs. The 1993–94 NBA season was the Mavericks' 14th season in the National Basketball Association. After a dreadful season where they only won just eleven games, the Mavericks selected Jamal Mashburn from the University of Kentucky with the fourth overall pick in the 1993 NBA draft. Despite the addition of Mashburn, and second-year star Jim Jackson playing in his first full season, the Mavericks' misery continued under new head coach Quinn Buckner, losing 23 of their first 24 games, including a 20-game losing streak between November and December, which tied the infamous 1972–73 Philadelphia 76ers. The record was later on broken by the 1995–96 Vancouver Grizzlies and the 1997–98 Denver Nuggets, where both teams lost 23 consecutive games, which was then later broken by the 2010–11 Cleveland Cavaliers and the 2013–14 Philadelphia 76ers, who lost 26 consecutive games. Green broke the NBA's Iron Man record of most consecutive games played, breaking Randy Smith's record, which was 906 consecutive games. After winning their first game under Nelson, which was a 105–91 home victory over the New York Knicks on December 4, 1997, the Mavericks traveled to Mexico City, Mexico, where they lost to the Houston Rockets, 108–106 on December 6, which was the first NBA regular season game played in Mexico.

Green, stock car racing's Jeff Gordon and hockey's Phil Kessel and Keith Yandle.
