Throughout the years, Pugad Baboy creator Pol Medina has created villains and rogues to challenge his main characters, some of which were based on the scourges of the Philippine social and political environment. Sometimes they were the people within the law, like Patrolman Durugas and Senator Cabalfin. Most times they were criminals, ex-lawmen, former military and even those of supernatural origin. Here are some of the supposed villains in Medina's strips, in chronological order.

Island of Fire is a 1990 Taiwanese-Hong Kong action film directed by Kevin Chu, and starring Jackie Chan, Andy Lau, Sammo Hung, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Tou Chung-hua. The film was shot in Taiwan and the Philippines in 42 days from 5 April until 17 May 1989. The film's theme song, The Last Gunshot (最後一槍) by Cui Jian, was written as a response to the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and massacre in Beijing, China.

The characters and storyline of Pirata are derived from Medina's comic strip Pugad Baboy, which is published in the Philippine Daily Inquirer and is compiled annually in book form.

Lamberto de Leon was a Filipino television director. De Leon was known for directing some of the longest-running shows in the Philippines, Eat Bulaga!, Bubble Gang and Pepito Manaloto.
