During their nine seasons, the Metropolitans were the PCHA's most successful franchise, as they went 112–96–2 in their nine years as a franchise. The Metropolitans also won the most regular season PCHA championships, winning five times, with Seattle finishing second on three other occasions. Daniel Sprong is a Dutch professional ice hockey forward for the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Sprong was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft after playing two seasons with the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), and made the Penguins immediately after being drafted, though he would return to the QMJHL and play two more seasons with the Islanders. He played parts of four seasons with Pittsburgh and their American Hockey League affiliate before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks in 2018, where he spent two seasons before being traded to the Washington Capitals in 2020. He has previously played for the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks, and Seattle Kraken. Donato is the son of former Bruin and longtime NHL player Ted Donato. On October 12, 2021, Donato scored the first goal in Kraken franchise history in a 4–3 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.

The 2021–22 NHL season was the 105th season of operation of the National Hockey League (NHL). The league expanded to 32 teams with the addition of the Seattle Kraken. The league had an October-to-April regular season scheduling and a full 82-game regular season for the first time since the 2018–19 NHL season as the previous two NHL seasons were shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The season began on October 12.

Projected as the likely first overall pick leading up to the 2022 NHL Entry draft, Wright was selected fourth overall by the Seattle Kraken.

The 2021–22 Seattle Kraken season was the inaugural season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. They played their home games at Climate Pledge Arena. The Kraken played their first regular season game on October 12, 2021 against the Vegas Golden Knights, a 4–3 loss on the road. In their second game just two days later, the Kraken earned their first win in franchise history, defeating the Nashville Predators 4–3 in an away game. The Kraken played their first home game on October 23, against the Vancouver Canucks, a 4–2 loss.

Ice hockey in Seattle, Washington includes professional teams as early as 1915, such as the Seattle Metropolitans, the first United States-based team to win the Stanley Cup. The city has been represented by various teams in the iterations of the Western Hockey League since 1944, of which the major junior Seattle Thunderbirds are the latest. Presently, the city has a National Hockey League franchise, the Seattle Kraken, who began play in the 2021–22 season.

The 2022–23 AHL season was the 87th season of the American Hockey League. The regular season began on October 14, 2022, and ended on April 16, 2023. The 2023 Calder Cup playoffs followed the conclusion of the regular season, and began on April 18, 2023. They concluded on June 21 with the Hershey Bears winning their 12th Calder Cup in team history, defeating the Coachella Valley Firebirds in overtime of game seven of the finals.

The 2022–23 Seattle Kraken season was the second season for the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise. They played their home games at Climate Pledge Arena.

The 2022–23 Colorado Avalanche season was the 44th season for the Avalanche as the National Hockey League (NHL) franchise that joined the league in 1979, the 27th playing season since the franchise relocated from Quebec prior to the start of the 1995–96 NHL season, and the 51st season overall, including their play in the World Hockey Association (WHA), where the franchise was established in 1972. They entered the season as the defending Stanley Cup champions.
