Lane Douglas Lambert (born November 18, 1964) is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player who most recently served as the head coach of the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Drafted 25th overall in the second round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, Lambert played 283 games in the NHL for the Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers, and Detroit Red Wings between 1983 and 1989.

Coaching career

Lambert was hired as the head coach of the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL) in July 2007, [1] [2] a position he held until he was promoted as an assistant coach for the Nashville Predators on June 9, 2011. [3] He was also an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals during their 2018 Stanley Cup run, however he signed with the New York Islanders after head coach Barry Trotz signed with the team in 2018. [4]

After Trotz's firing following the 2021–22 season, on May 16, 2022, Lambert was promoted to head coach of the Islanders. [5] The Islanders fired Lambert on January 20, 2024, after the team started the 2023–24 season with a 19–15–11 record and a place in the standings short of playoff qualification . [6] [7]

Personal life

Lambert was born in Melfort, Saskatchewan. His wife died on September 16, 2015, from breast cancer. [8] They had one daughter together and Lambert has another daughter from a previous marriage. [9]

Lane and his third wife have four children. [10]

Lane has two brothers, Dale and Ross, who also played ice hockey. [11] His nephew Jimmy played for the University of Michigan, [12] while his other nephew, Brad, was selected 30th overall by the Winnipeg Jets in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.

Mitch Korn , is a professional ice hockey goaltending coach and former goaltender. Korn was hired in July 2018 as the director of goaltending for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). Prior to the Islanders, Korn spent four seasons as the goaltending coach of the Washington Capitals and 16 years as the goaltending coach for the Nashville Predators under head coach Barry Trotz. In April 2014, the Predators decided not to renew Trotz's coaching contract, which set to expire that summer. Korn's contract was also set to expire that summer, and he chose to continue his professional relationship with Trotz over renewing his contract with the Predators. James Andrew Hiller is a Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player. He is the interim head coach of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League (NHL). Hiller played 63 games in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers, while spending time in the American Hockey League (AHL) and International Hockey League (IHL). He finished his career playing overseas in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany and Italian Serie A. Upon retiring, Hiller began a coaching career in the junior leagues.

Daniel Lambert is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player who played 29 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Quebec Nordiques during the 1990–91 and 1991–92 seasons.
