This is a list of Technological Universities in Myanmar. They are administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The University of Yangon, located in Kamayut, Yangon, is the oldest university in Myanmar's modern education system and the best known university in Myanmar. The university offers mainly undergraduate and postgraduate degrees programs in liberal arts, sciences and law. Full-time bachelor's degrees were not offered at the university's main campus after the student protests of 1996. The bachelor's degree was re-offered from 2014 on, to the best students in the country. Today degrees in Political Science are offered to undergraduate students, as well as postgraduate diplomas in areas such as social work and geology.
Mandalay Region is an administrative division of Myanmar. It is located in the center of the country, bordering Sagaing Region and Magway Region to the west, Shan State to the east, and Bago Region and Kayin State to the south. The regional capital is Mandalay. To the south of the region lies the national capital of Naypyidaw. The division consists of seven districts, which are subdivided into 28 townships and 2,320 wards and village-tracts.
Yangon Technological University(YTU), located in BPI, Yangon, is the premier engineering university of Myanmar. Established as Department of Engineering under Rangoon University in 1924, and popularly known by its former name Rangoon Institute of Technology (RIT), YTU is the country's oldest and largest engineering university, and the best engineering university in Myanmar. The university offers bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree programs in engineering disciplines to nearly 8000 students.
The University of Computer Studies, Yangon (UCSY), located in the outskirts of Yangon in Hlawga, is the leading IT and computer science university of Myanmar. The university, administered by the Ministry of Education, offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in computer science and technology. The language of instruction at UCSY is English. Along with the University of Computer Studies, Mandalay, UCSY is one of two premier universities specializing in computer studies, and also one of the most selective universities in the country.
The Defence Services Technological Academy (DSTA), located in Pyin-Oo-Lwin, Myanmar, is the premier technological university of the Myanmar Armed Forces. One of the most selective universities in the country, the academy offers various Bachelor of Engineering degrees to male cadets only. Upon graduation, most DSTA cadets are commissioned as Engineering Officers with the rank of Lieutenant in one of the three branches of Burmese armed forces--army, navy, and air force. Some qualified cadets may choose to pursue further education in Yangon Technological University, Mandalay Technological University or abroad. Brigadier General Kyi Khine is the Commandant of Defense Services Technological Academy (DSTA).
Myanmar Maritime University (MMU), located in Thanlyin in the outskirts of Yangon, is the premier university of maritime education in Myanmar. MMU offers 5-year bachelor's degree programs. Starting from 2012, MMU, administered by the Ministry of Transportation, offers two-year post-graduate diplomas in various marine and naval disciplines. In 2007, the school had about 1,800 graduate students, pursuing international STCW-95-standards compliant maritime education.
The University of Dental Medicine, Yangon, is the leading university of dental medicine, located in Yangon, Myanmar. The university, along with the University of Dental Medicine, Mandalay, is only one of two universities of dental medicine in the country. The annual intake into both dental universities is 300 but from 2017 it introduced the new intake and decrease to only 100 per university per year. The country with a population of over 50 million had only about 1500 dentists in 2005.
Mandalay Technological University (MTU), in Patheingyi, Mandalay, is a senior prestigious engineering university in Myanmar. The university offers undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes in engineering disciplines to students and is one of the most selective universities in the country, admitting approximately only 300-350 undergrad students annually based on their University Entrance Examination scores.
The University of Computer Studies, Mandalay (UCSM), located in Mandalay, is a Myanmar IT and computer science university. UCSM offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree programs in computer science and technology. The majority of its student body is from Upper Myanmar. Administered by the Ministry of Education, UCSM is the official university for all the Government Computer Colleges in Upper Myanmar, whose students may continue their advanced studies at UCSM.
Myanmar Aerospace Engineering University is a specialized public university of aerospace engineering, located in Meiktila, Myanmar. The university offers undergraduate diploma, bachelor's degree and post-graduate diploma programs in several aerospace engineering specializations and technologies.
The National University of Art and Culture, Mandalay,, located in Patheingyi, Mandalay, is one of two performing and visual arts universities in Myanmar. The university offers bachelor's degree programs in traditional Burmese performing and visual arts. Qualified students may continue post-graduate studies at the University of Culture, Yangon. The university's primary language of instruction is in English, and it accepts foreign students.
The University of Medical Technology, Yangon is one of three universities of medical technology in Myanmar. The university offers four-year Bachelor of Medical Technology (B.Med.Tech) and two-year Master of Medical Technology (M.Med.Tech) degree programs in physiotherapy, medical laboratory technology and medical imaging technology. The university accepts approximately undergraduate 150 students annually. It is situated at Lower Mingaladon Road in Insein Township.
Pyay Technological University (PTU), in Pyay, is one of three senior engineering universities in Myanmar. It offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in architecture and engineering disciplines. The university draws most of its student body from Lower Myanmar, outside Yangon Division.
West Yangon Technological University is a public technology university, located in Hlaingthaya, Yangon, Myanmar.
Technological University, Thanlyin is a technological university, located in Thanlyin, Yangon Division, Myanmar. The Ministry of Education run university offers bachelor's degree programs in Engineering and Architecture and master's degree programs in Engineering and Architecture.
The Computer University, Monywa is a public university in Monywa, Sagaing Region, Myanmar. The Ministry of Science and Technology run university offers bachelor's, and graduate degree programs in computer science, and computer technology. Students may continue advanced studies at the University of Computer Studies, Yangon in Yangon.
The Ministry of Health is a national government-run ministry administering health affairs and health care in Myanmar, including all of the medical schools. In 2016, President Htin Kyaw dissolved the Ministry of Sports (Myanmar) and organized it under the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture administers the religious affairs, cultural affairs and historical and archaeology research efforts of Myanmar. The Department of Religious Affairs purification, perpetuation, promotion and propagation of the Theravada Buddhist Sasana and promotes Myanmar traditional customs and culture.
Tun Thura Thet is a Burmese technology specialist and technopreneur who currently serving as Vice-president of the Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF). He is the founder of Myanmar Information Technology (MIT) Co Ltd. He is also an active member of the SME Development Working Committee and Digital Economy Development Committee and EC member of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
