Kyaukse is town and capital of Kyaukse District in Mandalay Region, Myanmar. Lying on the Zawgyi River, 25 miles south of Mandalay, it is served by the Mandalay-Yangon (Rangoon) railway. The first Myanmar probably settled in the area about 800, and local 12th- and 13th-century inscriptions refer to Kyaukse as “the first home”. The town is famous for the Kyaukse Elephant Dance.

It was established as the Government Technical Institute (GTI) under the Department of Technological Promotion and Coordination on 11 November 1999. It became Government Technological College (GTC) in 24 April 2009. In 22 April 2010, it developed the Technological University- Yamethin (TU-YMT) under the Ministry of Education (Myanmar).
