The office of Vice-Chancellor of the University of London was created by the Royal Charter of 1836, which founded the university. The role of the vice-chancellorship at the university has varied over the years in light of the successive changes to the constitution of the University of London, and has been greatly influenced by its federal nature. The following is a list of people who have been Vice-Chancellor of the University of London.

Sir John William Lubbock, 3rd Baronet FRS was an English banker, barrister, mathematician and astronomer.

Sir Robert Howson Pickard FRS was a chemist who did pioneering work in stereochemistry and also for the cotton industry in Lancashire. He was also involved in educational administration and was Vice Chancellor of the University of London from 1937-1939. He was Principal of Battersea Polytechnic from 1920 to 1927.

Professor Frank Horton FRS was professor of physics at Royal Holloway College, London University from 1914 to 1946 and later Vice-Chancellor of London University during the years of World War II from 1939 to 1945.

Professor Sir David Hughes Parry was a university administrator, Professor of Law and Vice-Chancellor of the University of London from 1945 to 1948. He was also founder of the university's Institute of Advanced Legal Studies in 1947.

St George's, University of London, is a medical school located in Tooting in South London and is a constituent college of the University of London. St George's has its origins in 1733, and was the second institution in England to provide formal training courses for doctors. St George's affiliated with the University of London soon after the latter's establishment in 1836.

University of Buckingham

The University of Buckingham (UB) is a non-profit, private university in the UK and the oldest of the country's five private universities. It is located in Buckingham, England, and was founded as the University College at Buckingham (UCB) in 1973, admitting its first students in 1976. It was granted university status by royal charter in 1983. Buckingham offers bachelor's degrees, master's degrees and doctoral degrees through five "schools" of study.

He is notable for his past service as the fourth chief executive of the National Health Service executive in England (1994–2000), as principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Dundee (2000–2009), and Chief Executive of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (2009–2013).

Leszek Borysiewicz Immunologist and vice-chancellor

Sir Leszek Krzysztof Borysiewicz is a Polish-Welsh immunologist and scientific administrator. He served as the 345th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge, his term of office started on 1 October 2010 and ended on 1 October 2017. Borysiewicz also served as chief executive of the Medical Research Council of the UK from 2007-2010.

Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster

The Vice-Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster is an office of the Duchy of Lancaster. The vice-chancellor is appointed by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster after consultation with the Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain. Since 1987, the vice-chancellor has been a High Court judge of the Chancery Division with a term of approximately three years.

Begum Rokeya University

Begum Rokeya University of Rangpur (BRUR), formerly Rangpur University, is a government-financed public state university in Bangladesh. It is the only general categorised university in Rangpur Division and the second public university in the region. It was named after the feminist writer and social worker Begum Rokeya. It is the 30th public university of Bangladesh. It was established on 8 October 2008 under Begum Rokeya University Act, 2009 (2009–29).

Sir Thomas John Parker, GBE, FREng, HonFIES, HonFIET is a British businessman. He is currently Chairman of Anglo American plc and Ombu Group, and a Director of Airbus and Carnival Corporation & plc. He is also past President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, patron at the Centre for Process Innovation and a Visiting Fellow of the University of Oxford. Parker has chaired five FTSE 100 companies, including National Grid plc, from which he stood down in December 2011.

Edward Byrne is a neuroscientist currently serving as Principal of King's College London, having replaced Sir Rick Trainor in August 2014.

Colin Riordan is a British academic who has been President and Vice-Chancellor at Cardiff University since 1 September 2012.

Gaoqing Max Lu, FIChemE, FRSC is a Chinese–Australian chemical engineer and nanotechnologist. He is the current Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey.

As part of the British honours system, Special Honours are issued at the Monarch's pleasure at any given time. The Special Honours refer to the awards made within royal prerogative, operational honours and other honours awarded outside the New Years Honours and Birthday Honours.
