Western Sydney Wanderers FC are a professional association football club based in Rooty Hill, New South Wales. They were founded in 2012. They then became the fourth team based in NSW and the second based in Sydney to compete in the A-League.

There have been six managers in their history (including two caretakers), the first being Tony Popovic and the current being Marko Rudan. Popovic has been the club's most successful manager, winning the 2012–13 A-League Premiership and the 2014 AFC Champions League whilst in charge.

It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under licence from The Australian Professional Leagues (APL). formerly under licence by the Football Federation Australia (FFA). The club had established itself as a major force in both Australia and Asia, having won one A-Leagues Premiership and an AFC Champions League title in its history.

The 2012–13 season is Sydney FC's eighth consecutive season in the A-League since its foundation season in 2005–2006. Sydney started the season under the management of Ian Crook until his departure on 11 November 2012, being replaced by assistant coach Steve Corica who took up a caretaker role from 12 to 27 November. On 28 November Frank Farina was appointed as manager and Steve Corica returned to assistant coach.

The 2015–16 A-League was the 39th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the 11th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. Melbourne Victory were both the defending A-League Premiers and Champions. The regular season schedule was released on 29 June 2015. The season commenced on 8 October 2015 and concluded on 10 April 2016. The finals series commenced on 15 April 2016 and concluded with the 2016 Grand Final, held on 1 May 2016.

The 2017–18 A-League was the 41st season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the 13th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. The season began on 6 October 2017 and ended with the Grand Final on 5 May 2018.

The 2019–20 Western Sydney Wanderers FC season was the club's eighth season since its foundation in 2012. The club participated in the A-League for the eighth time, and the FFA Cup for the sixth time.

They won in their first attempt, defeating Al Hilal SFC 1–0 over the two legged final, becoming the first Australian team to win the tournament. In the other two occasions, they got knocked out in the group stage of the tournament.
