Elections to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly were held on 28 November 2018 to elect members of the 230 constituencies in Madhya Pradesh. The election was a direct political battle between the BJP and the INC. One of the main centers of attraction was the contest between Congress heavy-weight Arun Yadav and the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. While the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government had tried to win for consecutive 4th term, the INC fought for winning the state after 2003. He was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly and has been an MLA in Madhya Pradesh for 4 terms, elected in 1993, 2003, 2008 and 2018 from Khachrod and Nagda-Khachrod. In the 2003 election, he had contested as an independent and had defeated both the Congress and BJP candidates in Khachrod. He is seen as an INC leader who has the ability to "turn tables" as he frequently wins in Nagda which is considered to lie within BJP's stronghold region.
