The Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council presides over the proceedings of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council in the absence of the deputy Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. The Chairman is elected internally by the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. [1]

Eligibility

Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council must:

  1. Be a citizen of India.;
  2. Be at least 25 years of age; and
  3. Should not hold any office of profit under the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Pandit Raghunath Vinayak Dhulekar was a prominent Indian freedom fighter, notable pleader & a social leader from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh who took an active part in the Indian National Movement and Salt March and held many responsible positions in Indian politics including Member of the Parliament of India and Constituent Assembly in 1952.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari is an Indian politician who served as the 22nd governor of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2023. An RSS veteran, Koshyari served as National Vice-President of BJP and party's 3rd State president for Uttarakhand. He also served as 2nd Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2001 to 2002 and thereafter, was the leader of the opposition in the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from 2002 to 2003. He also served as an MLC in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and MLA in Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly. He later served as an MP in Rajya Sabha from 2008 to 2014 from Uttarakhand and then the MP in the 16th Lok Sabha from Nainital-Udhamsingh Nagar constituency, earning him the distinction of being elected in both houses of State Legislature and both houses of National Parliament respectively.

The Vidhan Parishad is a permanent house, consisting of 100 members.

Members of the Assembly are elected by an adult universal suffrage and a first-past-the-post system to represent their respective constituencies, and they hold their seats for five years or until the body is dissolved by the Governor on the advice of the council of ministers. Uttarakhand Board of School Education abbr. UBSE is an agency of Government of Uttarakhand entrusted with the responsibilities of prescribing courses of instructions and text books and conducting examinations for secondary school students in Uttarakhand. It is also responsible for result declaration of Board examination. It was set up in 2001 and has its headquarters in Ramnagar. At present more than 10,000 schools are affiliated with the Board. Located in Lucknow, the Vidhan Bhavan is the seat of the bicameral legislature of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The lower house is the Vidhan Sabha and the upper house the Vidhan Parishad. The Vidhan Sabha had 431 members until 1967, but now comprises 403 directly elected members and one nominated member from the Anglo-Indian community. The Vidhan Parishad has 100 members.

Chaudhary Sukhram Singh Yadav is an Indian politician. He was the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 2004 to 2010.

Om Prakash Sharma was an Indian politician, who had served as Member of Legislative Council in Uttar Pradesh from 1972 until he was defeated in 2020. He was the president of Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shikshak Sangh. He died of dysentery on 16 January 2021. He was also appointed the Pro tem Chairman of the UP upper house by Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik in 2016.

Vandana Mudit Verma is an Indian politician and member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. She represents the constituency Muzaffarnagar Saharanpur. She is a member of the member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Manvendra Singh Chauhan</span> Indian Politician

Manvendra Singh Chauhan is an Indian Politician currently serving as a member in Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council. He is a Vice President in the Bhartiya Janta Party state unit of Uttar Pradesh and has been the regional president for Kanpur Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh for BJP organisation from 2016 to 2023. Before 2016 he also served as regional vice president for BJP Kanpur region from 2012 to 2016.
