The chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago is the principal administrative officer of the university and a member of the faculty of each of its colleges, schools, institutes and divisions. The chancellor is appointed by the Board of Trustees following nomination by the president of the University of Illinois System. The chancellor performs those duties that are assigned by the president and that are consistent with the actions of the Board of Trustees. The chancellor is assisted by vice-chancellors for academic affairs, administrative affairs, campus affairs, and research. [1] In September 1982, the University of Illinois System consolidated its two Chicago campuses, the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle and the University of Illinois at the Medical Center, to form the University of Illinois at Chicago. [2] Donald N. Langenberg served as its first chancellor in 1983, and there have been 10 chancellors in total. The current chancellor is Dr. Marie Lynn Miranda, who has been serving since July 2023. The University System of Maryland (USM) is a public higher education system in the U.S. state of Maryland. The system is composed of the eleven campuses at College Park, Baltimore County, Baltimore, Princess Anne, Towson, Salisbury, Bowie, Frostburg, Hagerstown, Rockville, Cambridge, and Adelphi, along with four regional higher education centers located throughout the state of Maryland.
Martin Thomas Meehan is an American academic administrator, politician, and attorney. Since July 2015, Meehan has served as the President of the University of Massachusetts after serving as Chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Lowell since September 2007.

Victor J. Boschini Jr. is the current chancellor at Texas Christian University. He assumed office as the university's tenth chancellor on June 1, 2003. He also holds the rank of professor of education. He was previously president of Illinois State University.
James J. Stukel is an American former educator who served as the 15th president of the University of Illinois system.
Richard H. Herman is a mathematician, currently Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, who had served as the Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2005-2009. He previously served there as Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs since 1998. As provost he garnered support for, and administered, a “faculty excellence” program designed to bring established faculty to the institution. Throughout his administrative tenure, sponsored research at the university increased by more than 50%.
Michael J. Hogan is an American historian who served as president of the University of Connecticut (2007–2010) and president of the University of Illinois System (2010–2012). He subsequently became a distinguished professor of history at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
John T. Wolfe Jr. is an American higher education consultant and retired administrator. He served as president of Kentucky State University from 1990 to 1991; and president of Savannah State College from 1993 until 1997.
Donald Newton Langenberg was an American physicist, academic, and university administrator. He served as chancellor of the University System of Maryland from 1990 until 2002 and was the first chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Langenberg taught at the University of Oxford, the École Normale Supérieure, the California Institute of Technology, and the Technische Universität München and served on the board of trustees at the University of the District of Columbia and the University of Pennsylvania.
John William Ryan was an American academic administrator who most notably served as the President of Indiana University for sixteen years.
Robert L. King is an American higher education leader and former Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education at the U.S. Department of Education. He previously served as president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. Other notable positions include having served Monroe County, New York Executive and as Chancellor of the State University of New York. On July 11, 2019, He was confirmed by the United States Senate as Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education.
Barry Allen Munitz has been a senior administrator at the University of Illinois and the University of Houston, a business executive at Maxxam, Inc., chancellor of the California State University system, and chief executive officer of the world's wealthiest art institution, the J. Paul Getty Trust. He is on the Board of Selectors of Jefferson Awards for Public Service.
Barbara Warne Newell is an economist, career professor, and higher education administrator. Notably, she served as the tenth President of Wellesley College from 1972 to 1980 and was the first female chancellor of the State University System of Florida from 1981 to 1985.
Randy J. Dunn was most recently the president of Southern Illinois University. He formerly served as president of Youngstown State University and Murray State University. Both of his previous presidential terms ended in controversy. Dunn submitted his resignation as the president of Southern Illinois University on July 13, 2018 amidst controversial actions within the university's system.
The chancellor of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is the chief administrator of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is selected by the University of Nebraska System president and confirmed by the Nebraska Board of Regents. The position has been held by Rodney D. Bennett since July 2023.
Michael Amiridis is a Greek-American academic who serves as the 30th president of the University of South Carolina. Prior to this position, he served as chancellor of the University of Illinois Chicago from 2015 to 2022.
